The Abbotsford Canucks (43-24-2-2) conclude their AHL regular season when they visit the Ontario Reign (43-24-3-1) tonight in Ontario, California.
The teams are tied with 90 points and tonight’s winner will finish second in the Pacific Division with the Calder Cup playoffs scheduled to begin next week.

What we know

Abbotsford posted a 4-1 win at Coachella Valley last night. Max Sasson had a pair of goals while Linus Karlsson and Danila Klimovich scored the others. Arturs Silovs made 21 saves in goal.
With reinforcements returned to the minor league team earlier in the week, Abbotsford iced a line-up last night that featured 10 skaters and two goalies that suited up for the NHL Canucks at some point this season. It also included four others that have spent time in the NHL at some point in their careers.
After seeing its 13-game win streak and 14-game point streak come to an end last weekend, the AHL Canucks have bounced back with a pair of wins to start this season-ending road trip. Abbotsford is now 15-1-1 in its last 17 games.
On the road this season, Abbotsford is 19-13–2-1 and is on a nine-game win streak.
Danila Klimovich leads Abbotsford with 25 goals which is three better than Linus Karlsson. Jonathan Lekkerimäki is third on the team with 19. Arshdeep Bains leads Abbotsford in scoring with 42 points in 49 games. Sammy Blais is second on the club with 40 points while Aatu Räty, Ty Mueller and Christian Wolanin all have 39.
Klimovich has scored eight of his 25 goals on the power play and leads the team in shots with 177. That’s 49 more than anyone else on the roster.
Arturs Silovs got the start and the win last night. Nikita Tolopilo, fresh off his first NHL appearances earlier in the week, will likely get the nod in net tonight.

The opponent

The Los Angeles Kings top farm team is led in scoring by Charles Hudon whose 64 points place him fifth in overall league scoring. Samuel Fagemo is the team’s top goal scorer with 29 on the season placing him in the top ten in AHL goal scoring this season. The Reign roster also includes former Canuck Jack Studnicka who has 16 goals and 44 points this season.
Ontario is 20-12-3 on home ice this season. What’s next
With jockeying throughout the Pacific Division on the final weekend of regular season play, Abbotsford won’t know its first round playoff opponent until the completion of the schedule. That means it could be Sunday afternoon before the playoff picture comes into focus. Heading into the team’s final game tonight, Abbotsford could still face any of Tucson, Bakersfield, Calgary or San Jose in the opening round.
The best of three series will be played entirely in Abbotsford and the dates for that first series have now been confirmed. Playoff hockey returns to the Fraser Valley starting on Wednesday.
