Another day and another round of cuts for the Vancouver Canucks.
It was announced this morning that the organization has made 8 further training camp cuts.
The full press release is as follows:
Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the Canucks have reduced their pre-season roster by eight players.
The following players have been assigned to the Utica Comets:
  • Guillaume Brisebois, Defenceman
  • Jonah Gadjovich, Left Wing
  • Lukas Jasek, Right Wing
  • Kole Lind, Right Wing
  • Zack MacEwen, Centre
The following players have been designated for assignment:
  • Richard Bachman, Goaltender
  • Tanner Kero, Centre
The following player has been released from his tryout contract and will attend the Utica Comets Training Camp:
  • Ivan Kulbakov, Goaltender
None of these cuts are surprising as all of them were eventually destined for Utica but could all be in consideration for call-ups at some point this season.
Richard Bachman and Tanner Kero are subject to waivers and thus would have to be placed and then clear to be assigned to Utica. While the other five players are still waiver exempt.
For players like Kole Lind and Jonah Gadjovich, it’s about getting adjusted to professional hockey this season and then working towards making an impact at that level before making the leap to the NHL. With the Comets training camp expected to start in the coming days, getting them down there for that is a good way to ensure they are best suited to hit the ground running when the AHL regular season begins.  Lukas Jasek, Guillaume Brisebois, and Zack MacEwen played in Utica last year (for varying lengths) and hope to take big steps this upcoming season.
All of these young players are expected to play a huge role for the Comets this season and rightfully have Canucks fans excited.
With these cuts done, the Canucks have 37 players remaining.
