THE INTRO
The Canucks have had their fair share of emotional moments, many at GM Place/Rogers Arena. Tonight, they honour and enshrine Alex Burrows as one of the greatest Canucks of all-time. Before the first face-off, we’ll all reminisce the slaying of the dragon, the arrow, breaking the streak, and an OT goal you won’t miss twice (because many of us did the first time).
Alexandre Burrows is beyond deserving of the Ring of Honour designation for everything he did on the ice and just as much off of it. He fought tooth and nail to get out of the ECHL, found his way to the Manitoba Moose and eventually got a shot with the Vancouver Canucks and as you know, the rest is history.
Tonight is one of those nights where the game itself plays second fiddle. Set your PVR’s and VCR’s, it’s going to be great.

LINEUPS
Micheal Ferland is still on IR, Jalen Chatfield has been recalled, and Antoine Roussel should start after also being recalled. There will be some game-time decisions for press box selections.
With the news of Jacob Markstrom going home for his father’s funeral, Thatcher Demko will have the net tonight. Mikey DiPietro will back him up after getting recalled yesterday.

There are no pressing issues for the Senators, as far as lineups go, so expect to see the lineup below. That being said, the Senators have the second-longest current losing streak in the league at four games (Detroit is currently at eight, yikers!)
The former Canuck Anders Nilsson may get the nod which would be cool and also fitting because former players seem to do well in Vancouver.

GAME NOTES AND A STAT OR TWO
  • A tale of two seasons: the Senators have the fourth-fewest goals scored with 69, while the Canucks have 89 goals (20 more than Ottawa) and they are eighth in goals-for. Nice. Both teams have allowed 83 goals which aren’t as nice but that isn’t what sells tickets.
  • Alex Burrows only played two games against the Canucks after being traded to Ottawa but when he was a Canuck he had 5G / 3A in 16 career GP and had one SHG which was a beauty.

Failed to load video.

  • Time for another episode of “Quinn Hughes is a BEAST!” He just recorded another assist last game and now has 23 points. He’s one point back of Bo Horvat, two back of Brock Boeser and just eight back of 10th overall… ALL PLAYERS… in the league. Cale Makar is great, sure, but he doesn’t play for the Canucks so we don’t care. It’s possible we didn’t hype Pettersson this much. OK, we did. Quick note: Pettersson had 32 points at this point last season. Maybe Quinn Hughes isn’t that good. The verdict is out still.
  • Thatcher Demko currently has a 1.000 SV% a 0.00 GAA against the Senators, truly remarkable. He has also never played the Ottawa Senators. Expect those statistics to be altered by the end of the game, hopefully not too much, though.
  • Tim Schaller is going to score tonight.

No, YOU’RE crying!
MY 94 CENTS
Let’s try this again: tonight is Alex Burrows ROH night and there is NO WAY, absolutely NO WAY the Canucks lose this one. The Canucks lost a tight one against the Oilers on Sunday and almost made it a game at the end. Vancouver is going to be fully charged after the pre-game ceremony and if we see Roussel which it looks like is possible, expect him to factor in on at least one goal.
Many will remember the Heritage Classic in 2013 between the storied rivals and Vancouver will try to put that game behind them with a win tonight. Hopefully, this game doesn’t suck as much as that one did.
AND ANOTHER THING…
