Canucks Army THE GAME DAY – Canucks Vs. Leafs
By Always90four
4 years agoTHE INTRO
The Canucks have a tough matchup this evening as the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs come to town in a very rare 7:00 PM start, on a weeknight no less. Vancouver has been in some high scoring games as of late including a rally-point victory against the Sabres on Sunday afternoon where they emerged 6-5 in OT.
Toronto is a goal behind the Canucks in scoring and they’ve allowed 11 more goals than Vancouver as well. The setup for this one has similar markings as the Sabres tilt from the weekend but the Canucks can’t afford to give up another generous lead if they want to have a shot at the playoffs. Teams like the Leafs will feast on them if they do.

LINEUPS
One more back from the infirmary, Brandon Sutter should be in the lineup tonight. He’ll join Micheal Ferland and Jay Beagle as recent healthy bodies to the lineup. Add to that the recent impressive play of Josh Leivo and Antoine Roussel and there are some tough roster decisions to make.
Jacob Markstrom is back and should be the starter for the Canucks tonight. Welcome back Marky!

GAME NOTES AND A STAT OR TWO
- Auston Matthews scored a pair last game against the Blues but went goalless in his five previous. Elias Pettersson scores pretty much every other game so really, who’s the better player? Both players have four goals in their last 10 games. Even Steven. Or is it even Stephen?
- The Leafs haven’t won in Vancouver since 2016 and before that was in 2003. Vancouver has outscored Toronto 41-25 in that time at Rogers Arena. Now, there were some pretty epic Canucks teams during that run and some really bad Leafs ones. Still, that’s a record you want against any team.
- Quinn Hughes hasn’t scored since Nov 5 and that should concern everyone. He’s dominating the league in every game he plays but it’s the goals we all want so desperately. Tonight, Hughes will be showcased and for the select few Easterners that stay up ultra-late to catch this game, they’ll see what all the hype is about.
- Antoine Roussel has scored in both games since returning to the lineup and they haven’t been donkeys either. Goals have been the Canucks saving grace this season and adding a guy that can not only score but dish out a physical game as well, is a welcome addition. Make it three in a row for the Rooster tonight.
- Bo Horvat hasn’t scored in seven games. He’s not asked to score 30 quite yet but that feels like a longer time than it should be.
