THE INTRO
Tonight, the Canucks head to San Jose to take on the Sharks in one of the worst-lit buildings in the NHL, the SAP dome. Jacob Markstrom shutout the competition one game ago and might be asked to do it again against a Sharks team that plays the Canucks well.
WHAT ARE THE ODDS?

Still no Brandon Sutter and of course this would be the day he comes back. What do I know? Thatcher Demko has a concussion because of Loui Eriksson’s “little things” he did in practice. Tyler Motte is still out, Alex Edler is too, as is Tyler Graovac. Julien Brisebois has been called up and wouldn’t that be something if he got in and made some noise?
Jacob Markstrom is coming off a stellar shutout. He’ll start tonight and if he’s not busy, might even get the go tomorrow as well. Mike DiPietro in Vegas would be cool, that’s a Christmas gift he wouldn’t forget.

Radim Simek had surgery on his meniscus, his Christmas holidays have officially started. Tim Heed has drawn in via etch-a-sketch. Dalton Prout is out as well. Those UBI’s are contagious this season. Antti Suomela has also been moved to IR with a UBI. Lean Bergmann was heavily called up in response to the roster move.
Is there a world where Aaron Dell doesn’t start against the Canucks because I haven’t seen it. Martin Jones might be the guy tonight but we’re all cheering for the Fjord himself to start.

GAME NOTES AND A STAT OR TWO
  • With Thatcher Demko in concussion protocol, Michael DiPietro has been called up and will back-up Markstrom. He might even play this weekend.
  • Elias Pettersson scored his 100th career point in OT against the Hurricanes but needs four points tonight to get back to a point-per-game player for his career. It’s possible, he is otherworldly.
  • Vancouver currently has a two-game win streak against the Sharks including a 5-2 drubbing of San Jose at the beginning of November which had Brandon Sutter score, Pettersson played some baseball and had a pair and Jake Virtanen even got in on the action. If Sutter does play, he scores again.
  • The Canucks have not employed my French Press PP setup and it bugs me. Even though they sit 4th in the league on the PP, I can’t help but think this setup would work. It still is incredibly predictable and that should drive the coaches mad. Not scoring for an entire game will also do that.
  • Of all the players in the league playing more than 100 minutes 5v5, Brent Burns leads all players in GA with 41. Spots 11-14 are also occupied by the Sharks. Not a good stat. They did change coaches for “hockey reasons only” so maybe this will change.
  • Tim Schaller is going to score.

Utica doin some stuff:
Not only does Batch get the line orders wrong, he saw Home Alone in the wrong order too!
MY 94 CENTS
I’m optimistic the Canucks might win tonight. Signs are starting to point they have that skill but then again, it took them almost 65 minutes to score on Thursday. Thankfully, the Sharks are more exciting to watch than the Hurricanes so this game at the very least will have a minor bump in entertainment.
Brock Boeser is waiting for another chance to go snipe-city on a goalie after all his foiled breakaways. They can only hold him off for so long.
AND ANOTHER THING…
Been told this is good. May have to validate:
