Canucks Army THE GAME DAY – Canucks @ Senators
By Always90four
4 years agoTHE INTRO
The Canucks take on the Ottawa Senators in the Nation’s capital tonight after getting the final word in against the Canadiens a few nights ago. Vancouver is a few points behind the Vegas Golden Knights for tops in the Pacific and a win tonight will keep pace with the division leader.
Tyler Toffoli has been a welcome addition to the Canucks and any boost the Canucks can get, they’ll take it.

LINEUPS
At this point in the season, there aren’t that many changes in the lineup. Realistically, the change between Jordie Benn and Oscar Fantenberg for the sixth defenseman will be the most common one. Thatcher Demko starts again.

GAME NOTES AND A STAT OR TWO
- Tyler Toffoli has found a new home with the Vancouver Canucks. Toffoli has 2G/3A in his last three games since joining Vancouver and it doesn’t feel like he’s ready to calm down. Could he hit 30 this season? It’s not out of reach.
- Elias Pettersson had 10 PPG last season and he currently only has eight. Safe to say he’ll eclipse that number in the next few games but by how much?
- The Canucks beat the Senators 5-2 on Burrows Ring of Honour Night back in December. The Senators will not be making the playoffs this season and their last 10 games are a decent reason why. Ottawa is 3-6-1 in that time. Yikes!
- Vancouver is bringing back their power play and slowly but surely they could finish the season in the top spot. They sit at 24.3%, good enough for fourth in the NHL. Going 75% tonight could bump them up one spot ahead of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who they’ll play on Saturday.
- J.T. Miller has a four-point lead over Elias Pettersson and Pettersson hasn’t put up one of his convincing 5-point games in a while. Tonight feels like that kind of night. Of course, Miller will be in on a good number of those.

They’ll figure this out eventually
MY 94 CENTS
The Canucks seem to be figuring things out lately but they’re still allowing way too many shots against. Ottawa was exposed on Burrows Night in Vancouver the last time these two teams got together. There won’t be any special treatment for the Canucks tonight but having a former Eastern Conference vet in J.T. Miller to lead the way should pay dividends.
Maybe keep the shots down though, ok?
