It’s the final preseason game for the Vancouver Canucks. The visiting Edmonton Oilers are in town to help close it out. Let’s keep it simple tonight. Good, fun, hockey. Maybe a bone-crushing hit on Connor McDavid would be nice. (Side note: this will be wished every game against the Oilers from now until forever).
Might there be some Sedinery this evening? Tune in.
WATCH / LISTEN / FACE-OFF
TV: CBC (HNIC??? REALLY?)
RADIO: SN650
PUCK DROP: 7:00 PM
LINE COMBINATIONS
With this being the final game, giving Thomas Vanek a shot up front to make something happen isn’t the worst thing. Brock Boeser with Markus Granlund and Loui Eriksson could be a bit of fun if anything gets going and Jake Virtanen could end up with a solid game playing with Sam Gagner. Sven Baertschi is still down with the sickness.
Ooh, ah ah ah ah.

So far nothing
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • Virtanen gets his final audition. Letting Jake have fun could turn his night into the TSN turning point in his career.
  • Same can be said for Darren Archibald. Is this the year he finally cracks the NHL? He’s had a really good preseason and again, a big night could put the coaches in a tough spot. The thing is, Jayson Megna and Michael Chaput are bubble guys, too!
  • It could be a long season so whatever this compete that is in their nature is, tonight would be a good time to show the fans what that looks like.
  • If irony is your thing, Sam Gagner putting up an ocho against his old team would be pinnacle irony. Don’t lose sleep over it, though.
  • The opening montage for HNIC. Honestly, welcome back hockey!
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
Agreed.
MY TAKE
There isn’t a whole lot to play for in this one for most of the Canucks as players like Scottie Upshall (STL) and Nikolay Goldobin (UTI) are gone so Jake Virtanen and Brock Boeser will look to secure spots even though it looks like they have already. The spotlight is on and the Oilers have a few players looking to lock down a spot. This could end up being a pretty good game.
SCORE PREDICTION
3-2 shootout win for the Canucks. I’ve picked them every game but this is Canucks Army and not Oilers Nation, no one wants sadness.
