CANUCKSARMY GDT 8 – CANUCKS @ RED WINGS

This season has brought some interesting tales so far and when the Canucks face-off against the Red Wings tonight there no doubt will be a new one to add to their story. Derek Dorsett, Brock Boeser, and Michael Del Zotto are the point leaders for the Canucks as of this point. No typos, no mistakes… this is fact.
Travis Green will have his work cut out for him when he puts his crew against a pretty talented Red Wings club. Safe to say the Canucks will have to have another game as they did against the Sabres (minus the really bad parts) if they want to hang around this one.
Let’s do this!

LINE COMBINATIONS
Erik Gudbranson is back from his one-game suspension and will probably draw into the lineup. Alex Biega had a good run. So far, no one is sick, so we should see a similar lineup to the Buffalo game. Jake Virtanen is still with the Sedins, the Killer B’s are together (Brock Boeser, Bo Horvat, Sven Baertschi), and Derek Dorsett, Markus Granlund, and Brandon Sutter get the shutdown role. There are a lot of question marks on this team, but it seems to be working out. That may change.
Jacob Markstrom should get the nod.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • This is the Canucks first game in the new Little Caesars Arena. It would be a good idea to be “hot and ready” tonight and skip the getting scored on the first gameplan. Enough with the cheesy starts, the Canucks need to (bread) stick to keeping the puck out of the net. Puns are free; I go for the easy ones.
  • Daniel and Henrik Sedin are still the leaders on the team with a 5v5 CF% above 58. Despite a significant lack of ice time, the Sedins are still making the most of their time when they have their line called.
  • Vancouver was kept to three goals against the Red Wings last season with Daniel Sedin, Markus Granlund, and Reid Boucher getting the tallies. Daniel has done well against the Red Wings so he would be the one to hang their hat on tonight. Two goals from the former Art Ross winner isn’t out of the question.
  • Sticking with the Twins, Daniel is one point away from 50 career regular season points against the Red Wings, while Henrik is two points away from 50. We know how this story will go already.
  • Vancouver’s PP is currently 4 for 35 and last year up to this point; they were 1 for 15. The Canucks are indeed faster this year, and Green has given the man-advantage many different looks, even benching Bo Horvat in that role. Chances are being created, and if they can figure out a method to get more pucks to the net, this Canucks squad may still turn some heads.
THE TWITTER TAKE
MY 94 CENTS
Plain and simple tonight: Lots of goals on both sides and a return of Sedinery.
OVER / UNDER
Henrik Zetterberg/Sedins references in age and productivity (+/- 2)     I doubt they’re digging that hard for storylines, but at least one mention seems likely.
Derek Dorsett goals (+/- 1)      A Jeff Cowan mention was made on Twitter the other day about the run he had, Dorsett is a tad more talented, but I think he goes dormant for a while. Zero goals tonight.
