CANUCKS ARMY GDT 47 – CANUCKS @ JETS

Hometown Hockey has the Canucks flying to Winnipeg to take on the Jets. Both teams were in action yesterday with the Jets being the only team registering a victory. The Jets are easily a contender this season to make a run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs while the Canucks are playing towards a top-5 pick in this year’s draft.
Bo Horvat skated with the Canucks yesterday and will be a game-time decision this evening. With the current state of the Canucks, it doesn’t necessarily make sense for him to play in this one.  Injuries have destroyed the flow of this team and coming back for a game Vancouver will struggle to keep up with doesn’t’ make sense.

LINE COMBINATIONS
It’s been well documented that Bo Horvat may return this evening. He changes this lineup dramatically by allowing players like Brandon Sutter and Henrik Sedin to get more favorable matchups. Horvat is a workhorse and if there is the chance the Bo/Baertschi/Boeser line is reunited, everyone wins. If someone has to sit tonight don’t be surprised if it’s Jake Virtanen. He can’t seem to stay out of Travis Green’s doghouse.
Erik Gudbranson was out last night with back spasms and has been put on IR per Jeff Paterson. That probably means the same defensive pairings again this evening.
Anders Nilsson should get the start tonight as Jacob Markstrom played late yesterday.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • Like it hasn’t been talked about enough already: Bo Horvat is back! The Canucks are a different team when he’s in the lineup and his defensive efforts give the Canucks a better chance to win. Maybe don’t block any shots today, ok?
  • Power players – The Jets and the Canucks have made the most of their chances on the man-advantage. Winnipeg ranks 2nd with a 25.1% completion rate while the Canucks sit 6th with 21.7%. The moral of the story is: don’t take penalties.
  • Steady Edler – Alex Edler is riding an impressive five-game point streak. According to Brendan Batchelor, it’s the longest of his career. He’s even starting to set up Boeser. Could the Canucks actually be turning things around? No, but it’s good to see Edler hasn’t faded away.
  • Power Patrick – Patrik Laine is second in the league with 11 PPG, only Steven Stamkos has more. He hasn’t put one away against the Canucks on the power play but he does have one goal in two games played this season. The Jets sniper is too dangerous to leave alone.
  • Streaking suspicion – Daniel Sedin is currently on a nine-game road point streak. Both Sedins have been productive on the road this season with Henrik missing out on an eight-game streak last night. Talks of them coming back for another year would keep points on the board; the question has to be could someone else do the same?
THE TWITTER TAKE
Soon this guy will be doing this for the Canucks. On a crazy stretch right now and defenders just can’t handle him What a pick by the Canucks!
MY 94 CENTS
The likelihood that Bo Horvat is a difference maker this evening is low. Practice just isn’t game action so it may take a period or so for Bo to get back into the groove. Brock Boeser had quite the performance against the Oilers last night and could have easily had a few goals. If the Canucks get a few opportunities on the power play, expect Boeser to be in on at least one.
OVER / UNDER
Daniel Sedin points (+/- 0/5)     Daniel has been at the right place at the right time despite looking almost invisible on the ice (could be ice time?). Regardless, he’s got a point streak going and the Jets will succumb to his greatness. Take the over.
Chris Tanev / Brandon Tanev combined points (+/- 1.5)     This may not be a game where “Tanev” puts up the points but there is a good chance Brandon gets a single, tough to say if Chris helps here. Take the under.
