CANUCKS ARMY GDT# 45 – CANUCKS @ HURRICANES

The last time we played these clowns, Bo Horvat had himself a game. This time, however, the Hurricanes are looking for their 5th straight win. We all know what being a team’s 6th straight win looks like so maybe the Canucks can flip the script. It’s game two of the eastern road trip and any kind of points would be welcome…like any. Go Canucks Go!

Word on the street is that Alex Burrows will regain his spot on the top line unless Jannik Hansen is able to go. Derek Dorsett wasn’t such a great option there last night. That Horvat/Baertchi/Vrbata line is still humming along so that’s a relief, but maybe slot in Jared McCann somewhere, too.
Jacob Markstrom is the confirmed starter after Ryan Miller played in a losing effort last night in Washington. Despite the band’s name, I do not think at this point in the season, Miller is “Better than Jake”.

Carolina is coming off a win in St. Louis last night, so unless someone gets sick from shellfish or something (common sickness) it’s all hands on deck again.
Cameron D. Ward (not his actual name) most likely is the starter for the Canes. Five game win streak on the line, you want the freshest of the fresh. I guess that makes him the guy. That Conn Smythe was a LONG TIME AGO!!!

REASONS TO WATCH THIS GAME
  • As mentioned above, the last time these two teams played Horvat went off for two goals and realistically he should have had a hat-trick on breakaways alone. He got a point again last night, a PP assist so let’s keep this train moving Bo!
  • If Alex Edler was taken off the first PP unit, that would be a reason to watch the first PP unit. He’s back to breaking sticks, terrible giveaways and brain farts. This guy used to be so good. Hopefully, Willie D starts mingling some new blood back there and yes, maybe even trading said Edler. Someone has to need him.
  • It’s an early Friday game which means you might get to skip out of work early, grab a bevvy or two and start your weekend on a high note. By that I don’t mean drink a high number of beers to numb the feeling of some of these losses, but for the sole reason of seeing that indeed sometimes…the Canucks can win the odd one.
  • We’re not at the trade deadline quite yet but it would be nice to see some of the new blood playing more regularly. Higgins has been waived, you have to believe Miller could be dealt with the right team for I dunno, Justin Schultz…haha just kidding everyone. Seriously, though, this youth movement needs some legs and if they are truly serious about this rebuild on the fly, the guys they want to take over need more ice time and less press box time.
  • EARTH TO THE CANUCKS!!!! You AREN’T getting the calls you think you’ll get, keep playing, The NHL has given up on you long ago. I’m at the point now where I don’t know what a true penalty against the Canucks or their opponent looks like anymore. There is some bush league action going on with the zebras and it needs to stop. This whole “reputation” call is BS. Don’t see Stephan Auger anymore so obviously it can be done.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
They just went FULL Carolina Hurricanes. Never go FULL Carolina Hurricanes. I’d judge further but let’s be real with each other, it’s worse on this side of the tracks.
MY TAKE
Even though Vancouver played last night and looked well, not so great; there’s hope. I’m picking the blue and green to win this one. Bo Horvat and Daniel Sedin both score a goal and I’m going out on a limb here and predicting a penalty shot.
WHAT’D I MISS?
