CANUCKS ARMY GDT 33 – CANUCKS VS. SHARKS

No matter the results from past games, the Canucks soldier on into tonight’s contest.
Vancouver welcomes the San Jose Sharks to Rogers Arena. The Sharks played the Flames last night, so hopefully, they’re tired and out of gas. It looks like the Canucks will be without Chris Tanev for a bit… or longer because of course they’re not injured enough. Regardless,

Tanev is once again hurt, cue the ironic tone of my voice. Ashton Sautner has been called up from Utica but won’t necessarily start as Alex Biega has been waiting to draw back in. As for the rest of the team, tough to say if Nikolay Goldobin draws back in. Facing his former club would be a nice way to show them what they gave up. Although, that rarely happens.
Even though last game wasn’t entirely Anders Nilsson’s fault, it should be a foregone conclusion that Jacob Markstrom gets the net back tonight.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • Hello darkness, my old friend – The injuries continue to mount for the Canucks with the latest casualty being Chris Tanev. It’s anyone’s guess as to when the plague will end but hopefully, it’s over. Keeping Brock Boeser in a giant bubble might be the smart way to go for the rest of the month.
  • Derrick Pouliot has been a great story for the Canucks. It’s been said before about other players but where would the Canucks be without him? He has three points in December with Henrik Sedin and Brock Boeser the only players ahead of him. If anyone is going to maintain their value, it’s Pouliot.
  • Since October 2010, Logan Couture has the 2nd most points against the Canucks with 28 (15G, 13A). Taylor Hall is the only player with more (34 points). Joe Thornton is only two points behind with 26. Feel like this game might add to their stats.
  • Ben Hutton hasn’t exactly been a pleasure to watch lately. That’s ok though. In 10 career games versus the Sharks, Hutton has four assists, and three of them have come on the power play. Might he return to prominence this evening?
  • Jannik Hansen successfully scoring on a breakaway. It just feels like it would happen tonight.
THE TWITTER TAKE
Whatever, they haven’t won it all in a while… no, you are crying!
MY 94 CENTS
Hey, I’m a fan, but I’m also a realist. The Canucks are probably not going to win this game, and they’re probably not going to win again before Christmas. Take solace in the fact that Brock Boeser is still finding ways to score or get on the score sheet despite the awfulness that surrounds him. Think about it, he’s still scoring, and the world is crumbling around him. That’s special.
Thankfully, the Canucks built up some points before this all came crashing down, so all is not lost.
But I think they’re still screwed.
OVER / UNDER
The score after one period (+/-  2-0 sharks)    This one is a push I think. After two periods, you’re on your own from there.
Freshly injured Canucks (+/- 1)     Take the under, it can’t possibly get worse. Can it?
