CANUCKS ARMY GDT# 32 – CANUCKS VS. JETS

How much do you like the Jets? Lots? Well, get ready for the first game of a double-double against the high flying (in name, anyway) Canadian franchise. It’s pretty rare you see the same team back to back in your building unless its junior hockey but the NHL employs the best schedule makers so this is where we stand.
This used to be a pretty good rivalry and now it’s kinda meh. Thankfully each team has a Tanev brother so we’ll end up talking a tonne about that. The Canucks came close to beating the Blue Jackets on Sunday so their resiliency to hang around is getting better. Let’s see where they go tonight.

Brendan Gaunce has been a healthy scratch for three games now, he may get back in. Is Michael Chaput the casualty in that case? Watch all 60 minutes to find out.
Jacob Markstrom gets the start today. He was due. Ryan Miller has been busy for a few games and he needs some rest.

Former Kelowna Rocket, Josh Morrissey flanks the top defensive pairing with former hated defenseman, Dustin Byfuglien. A puck-moving, slick playmaker with a tough to move Buff makes them a group to pay attention to. This is the Canucks first look at rookie sensation, Patrik Laine. Knowing the Canucks, he’s in for a big game.
The Jets counter with Connor Hellebuyck in net. It’s going to be a real barn burner, two heavyweights in their prim… you aren’t watching for the goalies.

GAME NOTES, STATS AND OTHER INTERESTING INFO
  • Let’s get this out of the way first – CHRIS VS. BRANDON “One battle to decide the Ultimate Tanev”. Mom and Dad are watching, one will probably get more presents if they win, the other… has to go back and live in Winnipeg. Maybe they’ll fight each other?
  • Daniel Sedin is pretty darn close to a big milestone; he is 2 points away from tying the great Maurice “Rocket” Richard for 92nd on the NHL all-time scoring list. Crazy thing is, he’s only 9 points away from Sidney Crosby. Time to see some Sedinery again.
  • A good week puts the Canucks in a playoff spot. Currently, they’re 5 points back of 8th which means we have to pay attention to the race for now. It could all fall apart though, and we can start talking about Nolan Patrick again.
  • A recent article in The Province, stated Matt Duchene and Gabriel Landeskog are going to be available. Sure, it’s in your own division but Matt Duchene would be a great fit on the Canucks. He can compete with Bo Horvat for the top line job and he scores. In a game like tonight’s, it can showcase young talent and what the Canucks COULD be capable of.
  • At the end of it all, it’s Canucks/Jets and as a fan of good ol’ Canadian hockey, this one is going to be a lot of fun. Stats aside tonight, just enjoy the ride.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
JetsNation are a buncha punks. If that lottery ball didn’t drop the way it did, maybe Patri… who are we kidding, we would have picked 6th.
MY TAKE
DO THE JETS SUCK ARE THE JETS BAD BECAUSE THEY’RE OLD LOGO STILL, HAUNTS THEM?
They don’t suck but it’s safe to say they probably would be better if they went back to their old logo. The same may be true for the Canucks and the skate/stick. Jury is still out on this one.
