Canucks Army GDT #3 – Canucks @ Oilers

After a layoff that has been far too long, the undefeated Vancouver Canucks will be in Edmonton to do battle with the winless Edmonton Oilers in what is just Vancouver’s second game in six days. Breaks are always welcome in-season, especially in granting a few extra days off to recover from some bumps and bruises, but having such a lengthy one after the first week is hardly ideal. The Canucks are as healthy as they’re likely going to be at any point this season, and would have liked to keep up whatever momentum they generated from their first two wins against Calgary and these very same Oilers.

Bo Horvat won’t play tonight, but Vancouver was assured today that he’ll make his NHL debut sometime soon, and will get the full 9-game tryout afforded to U-20 CHL eligible draftees. As our own Thomas Drance pointed out today, Horvat has the potential to really help the Canucks this season, even if it’s not in the offensive end of the rink.

No real changes from the last game against Edmonton, as Ryan Miller gets the start once again. The winless Oilers also look to have their full compliment of players, however Mark Arcobello will be centring the Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle line, rather than Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

If Arcobello and rookie Leon Draisaitl can perform well, the traditionally sad-sack Edmonton franchise look like they could have a reasonably deep top-9 forward group for the first time in a while, as David Perron, Benoit Pouliot, Nail Yakupov, and Teddy Purcell are as deep a group of wingers as you’ll find in the Western conference.

But, the Oilers are the Oilers and stuff always seems to go wrong. So far this year, their goaltending has been atrocious, and Viktor Fasth is out with a groin injury. Ben Scrivens has a 0.800 save percentage on the year, which will surely regress closer to 0.910 at some point, but hopefully not tonight.
