CANUCKS ARMY GDT# 20 – CANUCKS @ JETS

A new day, a new opponent. Will the Canucks strategically piece together a 60-minute effort or will we fall victim to “moral victories, building and frustration” yet again? The Canucks face the Jets in Winnipeg and they will get back some key minutes in Burrows. Winnipeg is a fun team to play and their fans will most definitely bring it. It would be great to pull a win out tonight.

LINEUPS

Alex Burrows should return to the lineup. It’s Winnipeg, he’s a king there. Hunter Shinkaruk Alex Grenier gets an opportunity to start his career on a positive note with his first NHL  game in Winnipeg.  The Sedins enjoy playing the Jets so Hansen should benefit from that as well. Let’s just start over again and go from here. 2 points are 2 points. No Shinkaruk, he’s been comet’d back to Utica. Oh and SBIZZA IS BAAAACK!!!!
Ryan Miller gets to tend bar.

The Jets are in a world of hurt much like our favourite Vancouver professional hockey team. Having lost their last 6 in a row, they’re looking for the same answers the Canucks are. Looking at this lineup they have guys that can put the puck in the net so maybe it’s contagious just by skating on the same ice? Blake Wheeler, Bryan Little and Andrew Ladd are leading the charge combining for 50 points going into tonight. But who really cares, they’re about to get lit up like the Christmas trees that somehow are already decorated in way too many homes in my neighborhood.
Don’t lose your heads Jets fans, Michael Hutchinson might just be your starting goalie tonight! If not, expect Ondrej Pavalec to let INXS of possibly 5 or more goals this evening.

REASONS TO WATCH THIS GAME
  • The losing has to stop sometime, right? They aren’t THIS bad are they? Vancouver won 2 of 3 last year against Winnipeg and that was WITHOUT Rookie Blue. It’s gonna be a track meet as long as they keep the old guys to a minimum.
  • Jake Virtanen might be close to sitting a game and with Alex Burrows ready to come back. Virtanen has been good, but noticeable every game and effective is another thing. Jake has so much promise and games like tonight are good measuring sticks to see what he can do.
  • The powerplay saw life in Montreal. It helped put the Canucks up 3-0! But then they blew it. OK back to the good stuff. The PP can start its rise again but putting some new bodies on it might be a better idea. Yannick Weber is a must and maybe having McCann as a 4th forward could generate a few more chances. We know his sticks don’t break as much as Edler’s.
  • Daniel Sedin is still putting the puck in the net but noticeably absent from the first and second assists is Henrik Sedin. There is no word why they aren’t connecting together as much as they used to, could be something was said at Thanksgiving or maybe Henrik didn’t wait for Daniel before going to the rink one day? I’ll I know is that their Sedin-ness feels like it’s lacking and I miss it. Come back Sedinery, come back.
  • Even though the Jets suck as bad as we do right now, their fans are awesome! It will probably be loud and the Canucks may get a boost from it, you know, because there’s actually positive noise in a hockey arena. The suits show up before puck drop in Winnipeg.
  • Just kidding, there are no suits in Winnipeg.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

MY TAKE

I am going out on a limb here: the Canucks play 56 minutes of good hockey and the other 4 aren’t needed because they did enough to force the Jets to pull their goalie. Imagine if I’m right? I’ll take Thursday off, you can count on that.
