The last time these two teams played, your Vancouver Canucks prevailed in overtime courtesy a Ben Hutton penalty shot. His slick move put the Canucks further away from this year’s grand prize: Nolan Patrick. Today’s a new day and the Coyotes get to play host this time. Does Hutton have an encore play in store or does former Canuck Radim Vrbata get his revenge?

Brandon Sutter seems to have found a temporary home with the Sedin twins, notching four goals and one assist in his last five games. We could make a comment about how Willie Desjardins loaded up the top line but then Loui Eriksson would probably be there.
Markus Granlund and Eriksson have found some chemistry together and Michael Chaput is just happy to be eating meals on a plane.
This hopefully is a redemption game for the whole team after they went classic Canucks and blew a 3-0 lead to the Blackhawks last Saturday.
Joseph Labate was called up from Utica earlier this week and might just get to play in his first NHL game with Derek Dorsett still out.
I’m guessing Ryan Miller doesn’t have the flu anymore but I have kids too so it’s entirely possible he got it again. He SHOULD start but honestly, I’ve been wrong here so many times.

It’s been a rough last week for the Coyotes franchise: Brad Richardson was hurt accidentally by Nikita Tryamkin and has just now flown back to Arizona from Vancouver and Craig Cunningham (Tuscon Roadrunners) suffered a pretty serious heart attack in a game a few days back.
Dylan Strome was sent back to the OHL on Monday.
Mike Smith has recovered from his lower body injury and will start tonight.

GAME NOTES, STATS AND OTHER INTERESTING INFO
  • As stated above, Sutter seems to have found a home with the Sedins. The points don’t lie and I’m guessing the fact they have a 51.7 OZFO% this season @ 5v5 helps.
  • Hutton got the winner last time versus the Coyotes. Will it be Troy Stecher’s turn tonight? His shot is heating up and he has 31 tallied shots in the 10 games he’s played. I’m pretty sure we had the same feeling about Alex Edler when he started. Once the first few go in, watch out.
  • Alex Burrows seems reborn on the Horvat/Baertschi line and he has been a difference maker lately. The young pups may have given him new life and I can’t see the Canucks getting rid of him. Weird how a different role changes your perspective.
  • Just gonna say this: If the Canucks somehow lose this one handily, it could be toast for Desjardins. He isn’t necessarily the problem but I could see it happening.
  • Ryan Miller played the Dallas Stars ten days ago and now that he’s healthy, he’ll be anxious to get back in and put together a 60-minute clinic. Jacob Markstrom held his own but it’s time for Miller to show his stuff again.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
And YOU want to be the Coyotes farm team (shakes head).
MY TAKE
I could say it doesn’t get any worse this season but the Canucks are kind of worse already. They should beat the Coyotes but two bottom dwellers make for an interesting game. With Anthony Duclair still wearing a desert dog jersey, Jim Benning might be scouting a future Canuck.
Sutter will score another goal as well. That is my take.
WILL THE CANUCKS BE IN THIS GAME IN THE 3RD?
The Coyotes aren’t a very good team but they end up being a pretty good team when they play the Canucks. The way Vancouver absolutely choked against Chicago is possible but the Coyotes are struggling overall as well, and I see the Canucks actually holding the lead going into the 3rd period.
Weird, right?
