CANUCKS ARMY GDT# 16 – CANUCKS VS. STARS

Hopefully, you didn’t forget the Canucks have an early start time today. The Dallas Stars are in town for the first game of a busy week at Rogers Arena. By next Saturday, the Canucks will have played 4 games in 7 days, so getting a good start today might be a good idea.
Dallas is feeling good coming off a win in Edmonton so it will be a shame when the dominant Canucks own give them a run for their money. If you haven’t checked NHL.com this morning, then you don’t need to know the Stars are 5th in the NHL in scoring.
This might be harder than we thought.

LINE COMBOS
Henrik and Daniel Sedin seem to be still doing the “Sedinery” thing so now is as good a time as any to keep pushing Loui Eriksson on that line. It has to work so force it until it does. Will it change this season’s fortunes? No. Let’s at least see some progress.
Ryan Miller is THE #1 goalie in Vancouver and he’s well rested so guess what, he’s starting. However, Jacob Markstrom is younger and might wake up in time for the game so let’s keep an eye on this. We’ve all slept in from time to time and it’s an early game.

Antti Niemi should get the start today. Again, early starts have a funny way of changing lineups last second.

GAME NOTES, STATS AND OTHER INTERESTING INFO
  • I only looked into one game because quite frankly, I don’t think anyone outside of baseball keeps stats like team record in 1pm start times, but the Canucks lost to the Penguins in 2013 via shootout so the writing could/could not be on the wall for this one. Haven’t decided.(Correction, Vancouver beat Minnesota in 2011, 3-2. That doesn’t really change anything for you, though, does it?)
  • Last season, the Canucks lost all 3 games to the Stars. Actually, Vancouver hasn’t beaten Dallas in the last 10 games they’ve played. This really isn’t looking good, is it?
  • Remember that Ryan Miller diving catch last game against Detroit? It was so amazing. At the very least, let’s just watch that again. Any time this game gets unbearable, just come back here, watch the quick vid and feel good for a minute. The world’s a scary place, take a break and enjoy:
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
You guys lose? Ya, us too.
MY TAKE
Sit back, relax and watch the Canucks stick up for their coach who is kind of on the hot seat right now. He shouldn’t be fired because this team is playing exactly how it should be with the players it has. It’s really too bad this season didn’t happen last year, you know, with the whole getting Auston Matthews thing.
WILL THE CANUCKS SURPRISE US TODAY?
It’s entirely possible. The Stars are a fierce team with tons of firepower so it isn’t exactly out of the realm of possibility that the Canucks give the Stars a stinker and somehow flip the script. Still calling for Loui Eriksson to lower his $/goal amount (meaning he’ll score more).
