Trying to find two teams on the opposite end of forgettable losing streaks isn’t easy. Here we are, though.
The Vancouver Canucks are riding high after an impressive victory over the New York Rangers to snap a nine-game losing skid; meanwhile, the Detroit Red Wings victory over the Philadelphia Flyers snapped a five-game slump of their own.
Two teams, renewed, re-energized and desperate to get back to normalcy. Unfortunately for the Canucks, it will take more than a handful of wins to do that.
Two in a row is a good start.

Safe to say Loui Eriksson is a top line player again in Vancouver. It’s not a “streak” yet but that goal has alleviated some stress I’m sure for Loui. Jake Virtanen was sent down to Utica for a few games to get his game going. Hopefully, a few months from now we’ll have arguments about why he should be on the top line.
Ryan Miller, aside from a random injury, should be back in the net.

Whoa, Tyler Bertuzzi is a top 3 player for the Red Wings? Thomas Vanek is on IR and the Red Wings do the proper thing on a call-up and put the proper player in the same role (ahem, Canucks). Andreas Athanasiou is turning some heads in Detroit and is coming off a hot game in Philadelphia, watch out!
Jimmy Howard seems to be the hot hand so it shouldn’t be a surprise if they go with him. I personally start Petr Mrazek on name alone. A man with missing vowels will always have a chip on his shoulder.

GAME NOTES, STATS AND OTHER INTERESTING THINGS
  • In 2009, after the Canucks beat the Hurricanes to break their 8-game losing streak, they beat the Chicago Blackhawks 7-3 the game after. The Red Wings aren’t exactly the 2009 Blackhawk powerhouse but those stat trackers have to find something to go on.
  • Henrik, Daniel and Bo; through everything these guys have stood above the rest. With 8, 7 and 7 points respectively, they aren’t far off from a Red Wings team that only has a few more points with their leading scorers. It’s not all bad in Vancouver.
  • I’m doing my best to keep this positive for everyone and I figured “hey, maybe we just need to see some good Corsi from a Canuck or two.” Henrik and Daniel Sedin are the only ones worth bringing up for that, or really anything. It’s too early for a sample size but that still isn’t very promising.
  • As stated above, Jake Virtanen was finally sent down to Utica yesterday. Right now, he needs to get into a position where we’re desperate for him to be back in the lineup. It won’t make a difference in this game… but soon.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
Feel like this story might go a bit longer. But even if it doesn’t, HOW DID HE GET THAT TEXT?
MY TAKE
This is way off but most of us remember Daniel Sedin scoring 4 goals against the Red Wings many moons ago. Is it too crazy to predict someone else, say, Bo Horvat to repeat the feat? We all need something to believe in, this is my dream.
WILL LOUI ERIKSSON SCORE TONIGHT?
The Rangers game was actually pretty fun and there were some great streaks that were broken but can Eriksson actually score two games in a row? Yer darn skippy he can! For whatever reason, things like this have multiples so it is quite likely Loui will score. I literally have no stats whatsoever to back up my reasoning but that’s why you read the other guys at Canucks Army during the week.
