CANUCKSARMY GDT 12 – CANUCKS VS. DEVILS

It’s a mid-week clash between the Vancouver Canucks and the New Jersey Devils, and it’s destined to be a winner.
Vancouver is coming off a thrilling OT loss, and for whatever reason that’s ok. Cory Schneider is back with his new team, and Bo Horvat gets another chance to “win the trade.” It has the makings of a classic. Classic what exactly? We’re not so sure.
Let’s do this!

LINE COMBINATIONS
Well, well, well look at those lines. The Sedins have been officially relegated in the line sequences. It was only a matter of time. There is a good chance the next big thing, Brock Boeser, will be back in the lineup tonight which would be bad news for future Hall of Famer Jayson Megna. That said, Sam Gagner would then move back to the 4th line with Alex Burmistrov and Thomas Vanek.
Jacob Markstrom should start again this evening. Anders Nilsson was absent from practice yesterday.

Huge if true, Brian Boyle hopefully returns to the Devils lineup after getting Leukemia. There won’t be a dry eye in the house if this happens. He was taking reps on the 4th line on Tuesday and coach John Hynes hinted it might be possible.
Cory Schneider will start because of destiny.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • Through seven games against the Canucks, Cory Schneider is 4-1-2. Pretty good. He has a GAA of 1.97 which is great, but at the very least the Canucks should put up a pair, and with THIS Canucks team, it’s entirely possible the Canucks score at least three on him. My prediction is below.
  • Knowing the Canucks and trends, Sam Gagner will once again put a puck in the net. There isn’t a stat that can back this up, but weird things happen to this team. Don’t even start with first game/first NHL goal players.
  • Thomas Vanek is the story early on this season that we never knew we needed. His slapshot on a breakaway is becoming a thing, and his contributions are being noticed. Vanek already has four goals, and another one might get him on the Horvat/Boeser PP when the time is right.
  • Jacob Markstrom had himself a game on Monday. He went full Johan Hedberg (4 min mark), and it led to a goal, go figure! That kind of aggressiveness could lead to the Canucks pinching a bit more in the offensive zone knowing Markstrom has things figured out on the back end.
  • Not the World Series

MY 94 CENTS
New Jersey gets blown out. Schneider gets dehydrated, and Brock Boeser scores a hat-trick. This is a big wish, but this is the spot where I can say whatever the heck I want and not be judged. I can even give you stock tips, but we’re talking hockey here…
OVER / UNDER
Crying eyes if Brian Boyle plays (+/- 30k)    Hopefully, this game sells a few more than 15,000 seats, and if Brian Boyle plays, you have to believe it’s announced on the P.A. Take the over if you’re a human being.
Total combined goals (+/- 4)    The way the Canucks played last game against Dallas and New Jersey’s GF/GP would suggest this could be a random red light special, goals galore! Take… the… over.
