Canucks Army Game Day 17 – Canucks @ Bruins (Finish The Job Edition)
By Always90four
5 years agoTHE INTRO
It’s unusual to have the Canucks/Bruins season series over so soon but tonight the second leg of the home and home will take place, this time in Boston. Since the last time these two teams met, there has been a surge of hype surrounding the Canucks most prized possession, Elias Pettersson. The Bruins will be the latest team to be exposed to the young phenom.
There is a lot of talent to go around on the Bruins squad and Travis Green will have to have his “A” game ready if he wants his club to have a shot at winning again.

Jalen Chatfield has been reassigned to Utica now that Chris Tanev is healthy*. Brock Boeser is still day-to-day with the groin issue but anything is possible.
Jacob Markstrom has been a changed man in net and a lot of that is in thanks to Ian Clark. With the snipers in Boston’s lineup, Markstrom will need yet another big start to keep the Canucks in it.

INFORMATION YOU DEFINITELY NEED AND SOME YOU DON’T
- Jaroslav Halak is having a renaissance of sorts. Halak currently leads the NHL in SV% (.952) and GAA(1.45) after eight starts. Even when he was with Montreal he wasn’t achieving these kinds of numbers. The Canucks have their work cut out for them yet again tonight. Last time, it was a chore getting the goals they did against him.
- Until he’s not a story, he is going to be a big story every night. Elias Pettersson is part of an elite group right now. His 1.60 P/GP is second in the NHL but he’s doing it in stride with the NHL’s greats: Mikko Rantanen, Nathan MacKinnon, Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews, Evgeni Malkin, etc. Everyone is so excited about the how he’s matching NHL records and this and that but breaking it down to the basics on a night by night basis, Pettersson really is that good. Stating the obvious and the ridiculous thing is he hasn’t even begun to scratch the surface of his potential.
- What Cody Hodgson started the season after 2011, Bo Horvat will continue going into tonight. Bo has 4G / 3A in 9GP against the Bruins which is quite impressive considering the Bruins don’t necessarily give up a lot to the Canucks. That being said, tonight could be a Jake Virtanen kind of night.
- Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron have been equally dominant against the Canucks in the same time Bo has been in the league. Since 2014/15, both B’s have nine points with Marchand leading the way with six goals and Bergeron with seven assists. Vancouver cannot sleep on this Bruins team tonight or it could be Pittsburgh 2.0.
- Even though the Canucks lost a chance to earn their first four-game win streak in a long time, they do have a chance to continue their current win streak against the Bruins to three games if they reign victorious today. Every little bit helps.
MY 94 CENTS
I don’t know what to think anymore about the Canucks. Sure, they’re winning and Pettersson is scoring but they’re also giving up boatloads of shots, allowing the first goal more times than not, and the PK has been tested way too much. BUT, it’s Boston and I’d like nothing else but an absolute blowout in the Canucks favour.
The crazy thing is, it’s possible.
THE FINAL WORD
Amazing this has gone on this long. When I worked in the business, we would have had these ASAP! Adidas is a different story, I guess?
