Brock Boeser selected to Pacific Division All-Star roster

The rosters for the NHL’s All-Star game on Jan. 28 in Tampa Bay were announced today. The lone representative for the Canucks will be rookie forward Brock Boeser.

In a season that’s largely been frustrating, Boeser has been a major bright spot in Vancouver. The No. 23 overall pick from the 2015 daft has played better than anybody realistically expected he would at this stage in his career.

Through 40 games this season, Boeser leads the Canucks with 22 goals and 40 points. Only Nikita Kucherov, Alex Ovechkin, Anders Lee, and Sean Couturier have more goals than Boeser does, and he currently sits in a tie for 24th in the league in points.

Boeser’s excellent rookie season has drawn comparison to Pavel Bure’s from 1991-92 as he edges towards breaking some of the Russian Rocket’s franchise rookie scoring records. Bure put up 34 goals and 60 points in his rookie season and, barring injury, Boeser will smash those records. Bure also wasn’t named to the All-Star team that year, so Boeser already has one edge on the Canucks legend.

Nobody really cares about the All-Star game, but Boeser will. Beyond the pride of being selected, he’s on an entry-level deal Boeser will receive a $212,500 bonus.

Last season, Bo Horvat was the Canucks’ lone representative in the All-Star game. Boeser will join Horvat and names like Sedin, Linden, Bure, Luongo, Naslund, and Messier to have represented the Canucks at the All-Star game.
