THE INTRO
Let’s just forget about yesterday. It’s probably pretty easy to make that happen, there wasn’t much to remember. Kaapo Kakko is the new shiny toy in New York so the Canucks will get their first look at him as they take on the Rangers in yet another morning affair. Vancouver will need more offense from its top players and if the power-play gets a chance to show up today, Quinn Hughes has been welcomed to PP1.
Can’t get more boring than the Devils, right?

There was rumour the Canucks may sub in Adam Gaudette and Loui Eriksson today. It’s a change, potentially for the sake of change and that isn’t bad.
Quinn Hughes saw his first true action on the top power-play unit so it can be assumed he’ll get that chance again today.
Jacob Markstrom is back in net after his brief absence from the team. He’ll surely want some goal support because there wasn’t any against the Devils.

There are no injuries to speak of for the Rangers but they have some new firepower this season. Artemi Panarin and Kaapo Kakko highlight the forwards and Jacob Trouba will help the defense get ahead.
Henrik Lundqvist will get the start today.

GAME NOTES AND A STAT OR TWO
  • The New York hockey landscape is going through a renovation with both the Rangers and Devils restarting things. The Rangers have only played five games so far and they’ve won twice. Add to that, they’ve lost three-straight games so they’re hungry to bounce a frustrated Canucks team. Vancouver has an opportunity to keep the Rangers buried but they’ll need at least one goal to make that possible.
  • After the Yankees lost to the Astros last night to advance to the World Series, Rangers fans won’t have much excitement so if the Canucks can score first, they can take the building right out of the game. This is a proven fact until it’s not.
  • Vancouver is allowing just over 1.5 few goals-per-game than the Rangers this season. New York has allowed 3.80/per game while Vancouver is sitting at a quiet 2.33.
  • Only four players remain scoreless for the Canucks so far: Jay Beagle, Tim Schaller, Jordie Benn, and Loui Eriksson. If Loui gets injected into the game today he probably has the highest probability of getting out of that group. Jordie Benn DID score on a breakaway in the preseason and he’s due any time now to get his first point after racking up 22 points a season ago in Montreal.
  • Aside from 2014 and 2018, the Canucks and Rangers have split their season series since 2014. Both of those seasons saw the Canucks defeated twice.

MY 94 CENTS
The game against New Jersey wasn’t very exciting/good/victorious/memorable. Today, the slate is clean and you have to think the Canucks are choked they had that poor of a showing. Jacob Markstrom will play and hopefully, the Canucks can score a goal today.
AND ANOTHER THING…
