Blackfish: CanucksArmy Prospect Report – November 24, 2019
By Brett Lee
4 years agoIt’s been a big week in Canucks prospect land. Jett Woo is finding his scoring touch for the Hitmen, Tyler Madden and Aidan McDonough were unstoppable, and the Comet’s had a very busy week. The European prospects also found the back of the net in the SHL, VHL, and Czech Extraliga. As always, any tips for improving these write-ups are much appreciated and I always look forward to the insight gained from the comments section.
CHL
- Jett Woo is starting to heat up for the Calgary Hitmen with 2 goals and 3 assists in his last 4 games. His breakaway goal on the power-play can be seen below.
- Carson Focht is no longer Calgary’s goal-scoring leader as he has been passed by Mark Kastelic but he still registered 1 goal and 2 assists in 3 games this week. Including this great overtime winner.
- Ethan Keppen had a single goal this week on the power-play. In 2 games he was a -4.
- Arturs Silovs dressed in 1 game for the Colts this week stopping 34 of 40 shots for his 4th loss of the season.
NCAA
- Will Lockwood returned from injury as was pointed out to me last week. Thank you for that and please let me know if I miss anything in these write-ups. In 2 games this weekend, Lockwood had a primary assist on a Johnny Beecher power-play goal.
- Tyler Madden is second in the NCAA for U21 scoring and first in goals. He recorded a hat-trick against the University of Maine this week along with an assist on an Aidan McDonough power-play goal. The next day he had another assist for a 5 point weekend.
- Aidan McDonough had 2 great setups for Madden’s first 2 goals and displayed a nice release on his goal.
- Jack Rathbone had 3 shots on net in a single Harvard game this week.
Russia
- Vasili Podkolzin suited up for a KHL game on the 22nd. He was a -1 with 1 shot on goal in 11:55 of action. He also played in a VHL game where he scored an overtime winner.
Sweden
- Nils Hoglander found his way back on the scoresheet with a goal on the power-play off of a sweet pass from Dominik Bokk. Hoglander will be a key contributor for Swedens WJC team.
- Arvid Costmar seems to be getting back to full health after sustaining a concussion. He had a 2 point game today including this power-play goal.
Czech
- Karel Plasek scored his second of the season after smoothly intercepting a breakout pass.
Finland
- Petrus Palmu had a primary assist in 2 games of action this week.
AHL
- Nikolay Goldobin is now the Comets’ points leader after a 4 goal week including a hat-trick against the Laval Rockets.
- Kole Lind had a 2 assist game this week. His 14 points a 3 off of his total from last season.
- Jonah Gadjovich returned from injury and didn’t miss a beat. In 2 games he had 2 goals and an assist.
- Francis Perron is quietly having a strong season with another 2 goals and 2 assists in 3 games this week.
- A couple of defencemen had a strong week offensively. Guillaume Brisebois had 3 assists and Brogan Rafferty had 2 primary assists.
- Lukas Jasek scored a power-play goal.
- Michael DiPietro and his .923 save percentage is 4th among AHL rookies. He has continued to look sharp in his 10 games and is really establishing himself as a legitimate AHL player. The jump from the AHL to the NHL is vast but his start to the season is extremely promising.
