We return after the holidays for everyone’s favourite Canucks prospect report.
The World Juniors will reach their climatic end this weekend after a Wednesday that saw some great action and upsets. One prospect ended another prospect’s bid to win a medal while the two American prospects have a big test against the Russians tomorrow.
It was a fairly light couple of weeks with the majority of players off for the holidays but that doesn’t mean there aren’t things to dis
We’ll break those things down and so much more in this week’s Blackfish: CanucksArmy Prospect Report.
As always, the stat images are from Elite Prospects.

Canada

WHL

alt
  • Jett Woo continues his hot streak with two goals and four assists over the last four games. The 2018 2nd round pick has quickly risen up the WHL defensive scoring and doesn’t appear to be stopping any time soon.

OHL

alt
  • Mitch Eliot with one goal and one assist over Sarnia’s three games over the holiday season.
  • Matt Brassard picked up three assists over the course of three games this past week.
  • Michael DiPietro had a fantastic performance for Team Canada at the WJHC – he heads back to Ottawa after being traded there prior to the evaluation camp.

United States

USHL

alt
  • Matt Thiessen is slowly improving his numbers. After three more games this past week, Thiessen has gotten his GAA below 3.00 to 2.95; while his SV% has remained flat.

NCAA

alt
  • Quinn Hughes has been playing well for the USA at the World Juniors – he has two assists in five games.
  • Tyler Madden has been turning some heads with his play – after five games Madden has three goals and one assist and currently sits 5th in scoring for the Americans.
  • William Lockwood was held off the scoresheet in both games that Michigan played without Josh Norris and Quinn Hughes
  • Harvard played an exhibition contest against Concordia University, Rathbone registered one assist.

Europe

Russia

alt
  • Artyom Manukyan has ended his long point drought with one goal over the seven games in the past two weeks. Hopefully, he can build off that.
  • Nikita Tryamkin scored one goal and one assist in his four games over the last two weeks

Finland

alt
  • Petrus Palmu with two goals and three assists over his first six games (Elite Prospects hasn’t updated with his game today) – playing a top six role and playing well for TPS Turku.
  • Toni Utunen had the overtime winner for Finland that saw them slip past Canada and into the Semi-Finals. Ville Heinola is likely unable to go tomorrow which means that Utunen may see his role increase over the last couple of games.

Sweden

alt
  • Kristoffer Gunnarsson was held off the scoresheet for Linkoping in three games.

Czech Republic

alt
  • Zhukenov played one game for AZ Havirov and was held off the scoresheet.

AHL

alt
  • Given that it’s been two weeks since our last update, there have been quite a few transactions for the Comets
  • Devin Buffalo (G) was signed to a PTO on the 22nd and then released on the 23rd.
  • Adam Gaudette was returned to Utica Comets shortly after Christmas
  • Darren Archibald was involved in a trade with the Ottawa Senators that saw Tom Pyatt come back the other way.
  • Tony Cameranesi (C) was released from his PTO
  • Craig Wyszomirski (D) was signed to a PTO on January 2nd

  • As always Comets Cory has you covered for everything Comets – check them out here.
