There has been a lot of discourse over the last week with the Jim Benning and Erik Gudbranson re-signings. Some are excited about the direction, while others are concerned it’s going to be more of the same.
The banter can be exhausting at times but I am here to bring some light into the Canucks world. Even if it’s just for a few minutes.
That’s the Canucks prospect pool.
Some are on an Olympic break, and some others are injured, but there are still some nice plays over the course of the week.

CANADIAN HOCKEY LEAGUE

Western Hockey League

  • Since the hit on February 12th, Kole Lind has yet to appear in any games. It was announced this morning that he will play tomorrow for Kelowna.
  • Jakub Stukel had himself a decent week – picking up two goals and two assists in two games this past week.

Ontario Hockey League

  • Matt Brassard picks up two assists in three games this week. The goal below was originally credited to him, and then changed to Serron Noel.
  • Brett McKenzie finishes his week with one goal and one assist in three games. He and fellow prospect Jonah Gadjovich have been playing together recently.
  • Gadjovich made his return to the Owen Sound lineup – picking up two goals and one assist on a line with McKenzie.
  • Cole Candella is held off the scoresheet for all three games this past week

  • Michael DiPietro picked up his sixth shutout of the year this past week, which matched his career high from last year. He leads the OHL in shutouts, is 6th in GAA among regulars, and 7th in SV%.

NCAA

  • The Canucks former 5th round pick continues his hot streak – scoring three goals and one assist in the two games over the weekend. Northeastern has earned a bye in the Hockey East playoffs and will wait to see who the face after they wrap up the ‘regular season’ this weekend.
  • William Lockwood’s season is done due to injury.

USHS

  • Jack Rathbone is up to 9 goals and 16 assists in 14 games – that is the best PPG pace among defencemen in the New England Prep School League.

EUROPE

Sweden

  • Elias Pettersson did not appear in any games this week due to the Olympic break – while Sweden was knocked out of the Olympics in the quarterfinals….
  • Rodrigo Abols is on loan to BIK Karlskoga in Allsvenskan.
  • No games for Gunnarsson due to the break

  • Jonathan Dahlen had himself a good game yesterday – picking up one goal and one assist. He was held off the scoresheet in Timra IK’s other game. They signed Fabian Zetterlund this past week and Hallander/Olofsson came back from the 5 Nations Cup. It’s all hands on deck for Timra for their playoff run.
  • Rodrigo Abols did not appear in any games over the past seven days

Finland

  • Petrus Palmu is quietly putting together a very good rookie season in Finland – he finished the week with one goal and three assists in five games.
  • Olli Juolevi was unable to record a point in all five games the past 7 days

Russia

  • Nikita Tryamkin did not play in any official KHL games over the past week – as the KHL is on break for the Olympics. They did play three friendlies against other Russian teams and recorded one assist.
  • Zhukenov remains in the MHL, where he had himself a good week, picking up three goals and six assists in three games. He is up to 10 goals and 20 assists in 30 games.

Czech Republic

  • Lukas Jasek did not appear in any games for Bili, as it appears they are also on break for the Olympics

AHL

  • Over the past week, Richard Bachman was recalled to serve as backup as Jacob Markstrom battles a minor ailment
  • Reid Boucher was re-assigned back to the Comets
  • Nikolay Goldobin and Philip Holm remain with the Canucks.
  • Michael Garteig was recalled from Kalamazoo to cover for Bachman.
  • Mathieu Brodeur was signed to a PTO.
