We are back for everyone’s favourite prospect report – Blackfish
This week, the World Juniors have kicked off and Canucks prospects are making names for themselves. While a certain snub from Team Canada continues to tear it up. The Comets are starting to get their feet under them despite a multitude of injuries.
All the images of stats are from Elite Prospects.

CANADIAN HOCKEY LEAGUE

Western Hockey League

alt
  • Since our last update – Kole Lind was cut by Team Canada for the World Juniors and has been on fire since. Since December 14th, he has 8 points (4-4-8) in three games with Kelowna. The kid is continuing his great play from before he was diagnosed with mono. With Dube and Foote representing Canada, Lind is being leaned on heavily to carry the offence.
  • Jakub Stukel continues to tread water with 2 goals in three games over the last two weeks. Just a reminder, the Canucks retain his rights until June 1st, 2018. He could also be on the move in the WHL over the next couple weeks.

Ontario Hockey League

alt
  • Jonah Gadjovich has been impressive for Team Canada so far at the World Juniors. After two games, he has two goals and one assist while being named the Player of the Game for Canada for their game against Slovakia. He is doing exactly what I had highlighted prior to the tournament – smart player, who goes to the net using his physicality to great space. His skating isn’t great but compared to his peers, it’s not horrific. He has been fun to watch and I think he will do even better as the games grow in importance.
  • Cole Candella with one assists in three games over the last two weeks – like Jakub Stukel, the Canucks retain his rights until June 1.
  • Matt Brassard continues to get his feet under him as the season goes along – he had three goals and one assist in two games since our last update on Dec. 14. He is a mainstay in Oshawa’s top 4 and playing in every situation.
  • Brett McKenzie with only one assist in three games this past week for North Bay.

  • Michael DiPietro did not play any games over the last two weeks.

NCAA

alt
  • Gaudette had one goal in one game for Northeastern before entering the mini Holiday break in the NCAA.
  • Lockwood suffered an injury in exhibition games for the USA but was added to the roster – he appeared in their only game (with another later tonight), and was effective in his role. His skating stood out, as well as a big hit. This is the first time for many fans to see Lockwood, and if he keeps it up, then fans will be rightfully excited.

USHS

  • Thanks to the help of SJ in the comment section last time – Rathbone has one goal and two assists in three games for Dexter. He suffered a knee injury and is expected to be out a couple of weeks.

EUROPE

Sweden

alt
  • Pettersson started the World Juniors off with a bang putting up 1 goal and 1 assist in Sweden’s first game. Sweden plays Czech Republic later today.
  • Rodrigo Abols with zero points over three games.
  • Kristoffer Gunnarsson is still without a point this season.
alt
  • Jonathan Dahlen with three goals and two assists over four games with Timra IK – he is back up to their first line, after being put on the “second line” to balance scoring. He was still getting a ton of ice time, but back with his usual linemates.

Finland

alt
  • Petrus Palmu with three goals in two games since our last Blackfish
  • Olli Juolevi was held pointless in Finland’ first game – they are currently playing Denmark.

Russia

alt
  • Nikita Tryamkin with zero points in one game over the past two weeks.
  • Dmitry Zhukenov appeared in two KHL games – was held without a point.

Czech Republic

alt
  • Lukas Jasek with zero points in two games this past week.

AHL

alt
  • Since our last update – McKenze Stewart was reassigned to the ECHL. Michael Chaput and Ashton Sautner have been reassigned to the Comets.
  • Joel Lowry was signed to a PTO and has since been released.
  • Adam Comrie, David Dziurzynski, Vincent Arseneau and Tony Cameranesi were signed to PTO’s.
  • Thatcher Demko was returned to the Utica Comets earlier this week.
