Blackfish: Canucks Army Weekly Prospect Report – September 29th, 2016

Hockey season is here, so that means the Blackfish: Canucks Army Prospect Report makes its return.
Training camps are in full swing, the World Cup could end tonight and some leagues around the world have kicked off their seasons.
Since the Canucks have made a few cuts in the recent days, there isn’t a lot going on in the prospect world, so this week we will take a few moments to explain where all the Canucks prospects are this season.
A couple of players have played games, so we will provide some updates there too.
Without further ado, let’s do this!
CANADIAN HOCKEY LEAGUE
- Tate Olson was part of the first cuts this year, and since his Prince George Cougars were in Langley to play the Vancouver Giants – he headed there and played in that contest. He also played on Wednesday night against the Kelowna Rockets. He ended the two games with 1 goal, 1 assist, 6 PIM and +3. Here is his goal from Tuesday night in Langley:
- Rodrigo Abols was returned to the Portland Winterhawks – given their import situation, he could get traded to another team.
- Jakub Stukel was assigned to the Calgary Hitmen and will look to build off his offensive production from last year there.
- 2016 7th round pick Brett McKenzie was assigned back to North Bay – he will be an assistant captain there this year.
- Cole Candella returned to the Hamilton Bulldogs and appeared in their game on Wednesday night. He posted one assist.
- Carl Neill of the Carl Neill’s was sent back to Sherbrooke – I would expect the pairing of Jeremy Roy and Neill will be prominent this season for them.
- Guillaume Brisebois was traded to the Charlottetown Islanders over the summer.
- Dmitry Zhukenov (inj.), Olli Juolevi and Guillaume Brisebois remain with the Canucks.
NCAA
- Brock Boeser will return to North Dakota. With Troy Stecher, Drake Cagguila, and Nick Schmaltz turning pro over the summer, Boeser will be leaned on more to be a leader for the NCAA champions. Colorado’s 2016 first round pick Tyson Jost will likely be Boeser’s centre this season.
- Adam Gaudette returns to Northeastern University – ideally he can replicate his offensive production from the second half of the season, rather than see the struggles he saw in the first half.
- 2016 3rd round pick William Lockwood heads to the University of Michigan this year. He will be interesting to watch, as he didn’t put up huge points in the USHL, but showed very well for the US at the U18’s.
EUROPE
- After being passed over in the CHL import draft because HC Trinec would not release him from his contract, Jasek was immediately loaned to the second tier league in the Czech Republic. The team that he was loaned to is Frydek-Mistek, who then loaned him to the U20 HC Trinec. He has appeared in two games in the U20, where he had 3 assists. He was recalled to Frydek-Mistek and has appeared in two contests with zero points.
- It appears it will be another season of trying to keep track of where Lukas Jasek is every week.
- Anton Cederholm was loaned to Rogle BK in Sweden, he has zero points in two games
AHL
- The Utica Comets training camp begins this weekend.
- The following players have been assigned there over the course of the week: Jordan Subban, Ashton Sautner, Wacey Hamilton, Carter Bancks, Cole Cassels, Darren Archibald, Kevin Carr (G), Derek Hulak, Yan-Pavel Laplante, Evan McEneny, Danny Moynihan, John Negrin, Marco-Olivier Roy, Curtis Valk and Mackenze Stewart.
ECHL
- At this point, there are no players assigned to the ECHL.
- It is expected that Michael Garteig will eventually find his way to the Canucks new ECHL affiliate.
Schedule
The NCAA games for Gaudette, Boeser and Lockwood are exhibition games – the season kicks off the following weekend.
If Juolevi is assigned to London before the weekend, the Knights play on Friday and Saturday. If Brisebois is assigned back to the QMJHL, the Islanders play on Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
