Blackfish: Canucks Army Weekly Prospect Report – December 17th, 2015

The weather outside is frightful and so was the Canucks game on Tuesday.
But luckily Canucks prospects continue to make some waves around the hockey world. The NCAA is now on their winter break with many of their freshman and sophomore off to compete at the World Juniors. While the KHL and SHL enjoy extended breaks before Christmas.
Every week, former Canucks Army writer Josh used to gather all the prospect stats and compile them into a one article for everyone’s viewing pleasure. Jeremy was nice enough to take last weeks as I got my feet under me as the new Canucks Army contributor. But now the honour has been bequeathed upon me to carry on the important tradition of Blackfish. Expect the same detail of the stats and breakdown of the week as before, but more gifs. I make gifs regularly for Canucks prospects, so why not use them?
Without further ado, here is this week’s Blackfish!

  • Carl Neill had a monster game on Saturday night putting up 1 goal and 3 assists. He also had 2 PIM, was +1 and had 5 SOG. Even though he was passed over in this first year of draft eligibility, it’s becoming quickly apparent that the Canucks may have found something with their recent 5th round pick.
  • Not to be outdone, Dmitry Zhukenov had 5 points (1G-4A) over Chicoutimi’s three games this past weekend. He is currently on a 6 game point streak inching closer to being a point per game player. He also had 4 PIM and was +1 in the three games combined.
  • Tate Olson quietly went about his business in three games this week. He ended the week with 2 assists, +2 and 9 PIM.
  • Guillaume Brisebois played two games this past week where he scored one empty net goal (which was shorthanded). He ended the weekend with 5 SOG and +1.
  • Kyle Pettit had 1 assist was +2 in his two games this weekend. His assist was his first point in 8 games.

  • North Dakota had a pair of wins over University of Minnesota-Duluth this past week. Brock Boeser finished the weekend with a goal on Friday and another on Saturday. His goal on Friday was another in a recent streak of beauties. Boeser enters the NCAA winter break on a 10 game point streak but he won’t be taking the time off, as he is now at USA World Juniors camp with hopes of landing a spot.
  • Adam Gaudette’s Northeastern University played Thatcher Demko’s Boston College on Friday and Saturday. In the two games combined, Gaudette was -5 with 7 SOG.
  • Penn State played Princeton on Friday night, Williamson was -1 with 4 SOG.

  • As mentioned above, Boston College and Northeastern played on Friday and Saturday night. Although still amongst the best in the NCAA, Demko’s numbers are slowly coming down from their gaudy totals to start the season. Demko gave up a total of 6 goals (3-3 tie on Friday, 4-3 Boston College win on Saturday) in the weekend series.

  • Alexandre Grenier scored last night, which makes him the franchise leader in goals scored.
  • Alex Friesen (now injured) and Jordan Subban had a good week but for a more in-depth look at Utica’s week, take a look at Jeremy’s Utica week in Review here.

Editor Note: This table is being wonky, but Tyramkin and Jasek play on Tuesday as well.
Luckily Thatcher Demko is back in these updates after a one week absence, and there was a great story on Vice Sports this week about Demko. In the article, the young man who passed away, Ian Jenkins, is the same player that Bo Horvat wears #53 for.
I hope I did Josh proud with this Blackfish.
