That’s a nice way to bounce back.
After a bit of a rocky start where he was outplayed by goaltending partner Nikita Tolopilo, Arturs Silovs has been named the American Hockey League’s goaltender of the month for the month of November. Through five starts in Novemeber, Silovs went 4-1-0 with a 1.01 goals-against average, a .958 save percentage, and two shutouts, stopping 114 of 119 shots overall.
On the season as a whole, Silovs now boasts a record of 7-2-1 with a 2.53 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage in 11 appearances for Abbotsford this season.
Silovs took home MVP honours at this year’s IIHF World Championship in his hometown of Riga, Latvia, after backstopping his Latvian squad to their first medal in the program’s history as they took home bronze. Silovs was lights out in that tournament, to say the least.
Couple that with a rather impressive five game NHL audition just a few months prior, and expectations were sky-high for the 22-year-old sixth round pick. After a challenging month of October, Silovs has bounced back in a big way and appears to be right back on track.
Abbotsford is currently tied with the Henderson Silver Knights for third place in the AHL’s Pacific Division. With an 11-5-1 record, the baby Nucks are five points back of the Calgary Wranglers for first in the Pacific.
