The Abbotsford Canucks‘ quest to repeat as Calder Cup Champions officially begins today, as the club’s three-day training kicks off at the Abbotsford Centre.
The Canucks announced their initial AHL roster. Here it is, straight from their press release:

Nine (9) defencemen, 2024-25 team(s): Joe Arntsen (Abbotsford – AHL, Kalamazoo – ECHL), Derek Daschke (Utah – ECHL), Robby Drazner (Western Michigan – NCHC), Nikolai Knyzhov (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton – AHL, Grand Rapids – AHL, Cincinnati – ECHL), Kirill Kudryavtsev (Vancouver – NHL, Abbotsford – AHL), Jayden Lee (South Carolina – ECHL), Sawyer Mynio (Seattle – WHL, Calgary – WHL), Davis Pennington (Kalamazoo – ECHL, Quinnipiac – ECAC), Jimmy Schuldt (San Jose – NHL, San Jose – AHL)

Abbotsford’s training camp sessions at Abbotsford Centre start on Wednesday, October 1st, and runs until Friday, October 3rd. The team will then participate in a public scrimmage at the Chilliwack Coliseum on Saturday, October 4th.
It’s unclear when the Vancouver Canucks — who play their second-to-last preseason game in Calgary tonight — plan to make their next wave of roster cuts. The Canucks made 17 cuts earlier this week, and most of those names find themselves on the initial AHL training camp roster. With Arshdeep Bains, Max Sasson, Linus Karlsson, and Aatu Räty all still on the Canucks’ main preseason roster — not to mention the glut of defencemen still battling for an NHL job — it will certainly be interesting to see which names are added to Abbotsford’s roster once the Canucks make their final cuts.
