Vancouver Canucks’ prospect Viktor Persson makes Sweden’s World Junior roster

The Vancouver Canucks’ seventh round pick from the 2020 NHL Entry Draft just got some tremendous news.
Just weeks after having his J20 league cancelled, Viktor Persson got some good news on Tuesday morning when he found out that he had made Sweden’s preliminary roster for the 2021 World Junior Championships.
As first reported by TSN1040’s Rick Dhaliwal, Persson will compete at Sweden’s tryout before the WJC later this month.
Persson has a tough task ahead of him to crack the lineup and likely still finds himself as an outsider to make the opening night lineup for Sweden.
This year, the Swedish U20 team is stacked with great wingers and some truly dynamic offensive defencemen.
Making the trip to Canada is something Persson would have been doing very soon anyways. He is set to join the Kamloops Blazers at the start of 2021 for their WHL season.
I spoke with Persson just last week and we talked about what it would feel like for him to get selected.
There should be more than one Canuck prospect at this year’s tryout as Arvid Costmar looks to be in the mix for the team’s second line centre position.
The Canucks look to have made the right decision with their most recent seventh round pick. Persson has size, offensive skill and does not shy away from physical play.
#Canucks defensive prospect, Viktor Persson jumps into the rush and scores an absolute beauty. He's feeling some extra pop after being named to the National U20 squad yesterday
He will continue to develop once he joins the Blazers in the WHL but for now he is excited to be a part of the selection process for Sweden’s U20 team. His size alone should help him stick out and he now has a chance to win over some coaches once they see him play in person.
I wrote in-depth about Viktor Persson here and we will continue to follow his progression as the year goes on.
