The moment Brock Boeser reacted to blocking Mark Giordano’s shot last night, it wasn’t good. The agony on his face, followed by his inability to stand up, then having to literally push himself across the ice all signaled that it wasn’t good. Boeser’s status was unknown and everybody was worried. As has been the typical storyline this season, a long-term injury was expected. Exhale, Canucks fans. The organization has announced that Boeser did not fracture his foot, though a timeline will be announced at a later date.
In an unfortunate situation, this is probably the best possible news. A fracture would, without a doubt, have set him back possibly months. Nonetheless, it appears as though he won’t make a return anytime soon. It was obviously a painful injury, so there may be some sort of soft tissue damage or a significant bone bruise.
According to Sportsnet’s John Shannon, it is indeed a bone bruise. Purely speculation on my part, but I’d assume he will be out week-to-week.
The Canucks play 7 games within the next three weeks, with a 5-day hiatus for Christmas. It’s unfortunate that this injury occured in the first place, but the good news is that it shouldn’t be long term and it comes at a time when the team is scheduled to have two extended breaks over the next few weeks.
In case you missed it, the Canucks recalled Reid Boucher from Utica to fill the void from Boeser’s absense.
A positive update: Jim Benning has confirmed that Boeser is “more day-to-day”.
Benning on Boeser: "It's more of a bone bruise and more day-to-day than week-to-week for his return. It's a relief. We can't afford to lose a player like that." #Canucks
