Blackfish: Canucks Army Weekly Prospect Report – December 29th, 2016

blackfish2

Christmas has passed, and New Years is on the horizon, but that doesn’t mean things aren’t happening in the Canucks prospect world.

Lukas Jasek and Olli Juolevi look to get their respective countries to the quarter-finals at the World Juniors. While the CHL begins the un-official second half with the trading deadlines soon on the horizon.

After a bit of a hiatus, the NCAA gets going again; while in Utica, the Comets continue to struggle.

All that and more in this week’s Blackfish: Canucks Army Prospect Report.

    Have a Happy New Year!

    • defenceman factory

A year ago Ryan Biech wrote a glowing review of Carl Neill. Haven’t heard much since. Big points again this year and captain of his team. What are the projections for him? Seems he should be prominent in discussions on Canuck’s future.

If Neill is the real deal gotta give it to Benning’s ability to find good Dmen.

    • Whackanuck

Pretty pathetic group of NHL prospects in Utica. Basically Virtanen and Demko. Forget Subban, Cassels, Zalewski, Grenier. Tweeners Megna and Chaput would help but Pelletier replaces one of them. Time for an airlift(PTOs).

    • Larionov18

What happened to Cassels. I had high hopes but zero assists. /I thought he was a play maker. Pretty bleak looking crop. Thank gawd for Tryamkin and Stetcher.

      • Braindead Benning

        Totally agree,

When they drafted Cassels I never envisioned him to be much of an offensive threat however, I also thought he could at least be .5 PPG at the AHL level, hoping he maybe just a late bloomer?

As far as stats go, it really looks like Gaudette could be a late round steal… encouraging to see that his totals are increasing every year

    • LTFan

I am a supporter of what JB has done for the most part. That being said it looks like Tkachuk would have been the better pick. He is doing what the Canucks need most – scoring.

    • UKCanuck

Expectation all around is that Boeser jumps at year end (although UND’s season looks like lasting longer than Utica’s) but what about Gaudette? Assume ‘nucks will want to sign him and get him playing in Utica this year?

Cassels seems to have gone from sure fire bottom six NHLer to flaming out of the AHL at the end of his ELC. An update on his season would be nice too.

    • Freud

Juolevi appears to be on Finland’s 2nd pair as he’s getting 3rd most minutes.

A 17 year old is getting more icetime for Finland, as well and a Detroit 2nd rounder.

He’s getting out performed by a 5th round Montreal prospect in London too.

When do we start to worry?
