CANUCKS ARMY GDT# 24 – CANUCKS VS. DUCKS

Ducks

The Canucks are back in action against the rival Ducks. Old friends Ryan Kesler and Kevin Bieksa return to Rogers Arena with their fowl folk and just in time too, the Canucks are red hot and looking for their next victims.

With injuries up and down the roster, Vancouver should be doing a lot worse than they are; the opposite is true. Goals are coming from everyone, and the fans are happy? Rebuilds, who knew?

Chris Tanev is practicing again, and word on the street is he looks fine, just time to get back into game shape. Jannik Hansen is also practicing again so how long until he’s back? How weird is it that when these guys come back, there are roster questions. When Tanev and Alex Edler come back, what do they do with the rest of the defence? At least they can make it until the New year before this has to be answered.

Ryan Miller is rested and should start.

Aside from Kevin Bieksa being beyond awful this season, no real notes.

John Gibson should be startings, and he’s been hot lately.

GAME NOTES, STATS AND OTHER INTERESTING INFO

  • Bo Horvat continues to lead the Canucks in points, now with 16 on the campaign. Every game, he shows one more layer of what he is becoming. Soon enough, we’ll hate him because he is too good. Not really fair when you cheer for the Canucks is it?
  • The Ducks PP is clicking at 22.4%, but the Canucks are 5th overall in PK at 85.7%; a battle of the special teams might end up being a dud, so 5v5 will most likely decide this one.
  • Another area both teams are LIT, as the kids say, is the face-off circle. First and seventh respectively, the Ducks and Canucks are great at starting with the puck. Every battle will be earned tonight.
  • We currently live in a world where Luca Sbisa and Troy Stecher are tied for points on the Canucks. They both have five currently, and there’s a chance they could show off against this Duck team. I don’t think Kesler has seen the Stecher move yet so Troy could feast tonight.
  • Alex Burrows is reborn! With points in four of his last five games, he has found that second wind and it could keep his career going as long as Bo Horvat wants him there. Everyone was thinking buyout in the offseason but here we are, and it’s awesome to see a guy who has worked so hard, get back to a place where it’s all paying off again.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

It probably should be cell phones, but you get the point.

MY TAKE

I obviously have no clue what the Canucks are doing this year and just when you think they’re completely incapable of playing 60 minutes, they put together a two-game winning streak and get contributions from almost everyone on the team. Can I say they’ll challenge for a playoff spot again?

Maybe I’ll flop back by Christmas.

WILL ‘LAST NAME’ BEAT OUT BRANDON SUTTER IN THE POINTS RACE?

Tough to say this early in the season but a two-goal performance on six shots will have Sutter looking over his shoulder and might even challenge for that top winger role with the Sedins.

Is Malhotra signing showing benefits ?

JB had a modest win with the Granlund/Shatenkirk trade ?

After Edler and Tanev return who will be left standing on the Vcr blue line

ps Tryamkins agent definitely won with his players contract

“I obviously have no clue what the Canucks are doing this year”

I feel your pain. You could try a new career – advertising maybe, or water-ski instructor….

So its basically Kesler and a couple of draft picks for Sbisa, Sutter, and Gubrandson? No home-run, but those are three legit NHL players, the type you need unless you are going for the Leafs/Oilers/Sabres/Arizona 10 year rebuild of rolling over and showing your bellies and hoping one of your top draft picks work out.

At the beginning of the season I looked at the roster and believed that player for player Vcr was fundamentally as good as the middle 10 teams in the league. Sure they don’t have a McDavid or a Matthews, but players such as the Sedins, Horvat or Sutter, Ericksson have nothing to hang their heads about. Edler and Tanev are top 4 D on any team. The next thought was so why not the play-offs. Who would we throw out or off the roster. Frankly I was taken back with the poor start and I understand it’s not a popular sentiment but I think the team will improve in the near future. The rebuild actually started when Gillis recognized the need and traded not only Mr & Mrs Luongo (Markstrom) but Schneider too and acquired Horvat. The rebuild has continued and apart from icing the youngsest D in tonoights game Vcr have a total of 12 players younger than 24 and 17 under 26 on the roster. Seems like the media have not realized this but to be honest most are from West of the Lakehead and blind to what happens on this side of the country. Here’s a tip stop listening to the Eastern media they know squat

Bo Horvat should be a 1st line center with Eriksson & ???

Sedins should be 2nd liners with Hansen / Burrows.

Sedins should be leading & mentoring rookies from the 2nd line for the remainder of their careers.

    Maybe next year ?

Shhhh. Let us not get all ahead of ourselves. Tonight may be a big crap out, as the club fails to ignore Saturday night against the leafs and comes out shuffling around and getting beat on. Just saying.

Anyone else notice how mediocre the middle of the NHL is right now? 3 points less and the Canucks are 30th, 3 points more and they are tied for 13th! Don’t know whether to be a draftiest and hope they lose or follow my heart and hope they win.
