What a weekend. Canucks rookie Brock Boeser found himself among the NHL’s best this weekend. Not as a fan, but actually as one of the NHL’s best. And rightfully so. Boeser is putting up terrific numbers and making his case to be the league’s Rookie of the Year. This was his first All-Star Game and hopefully not his last.
An early-morning flight at YVR meant Boeser was in for a long day of travel. 8 hours later, the Canucks’ all-star was in Tampa Bay.
Saturday: media, media, media, then hockey. Most interviews asked the same types of questions: How does it feel to be here? What do you hope to take away? What are your thoughts on your season so far?
The interview that stuck out the most, not surprisingly, was with the On The Bench duo. They found a nickname for Brock that was unlike any I’ve ever heard before: Broccoli. I wonder if it’ll stick…
NHL.com followed Boeser around for the morning as he went about his media rounds.
Then came the skills competition. Team Pacific captain Connor McDavid signed up Boeser for what he does best: the accuracy shooting competition. He was up against stiff competition in the likes of Stamkos, Crosby, Wheeler, James Neal, and others. He hit all five targets in 11.136 seconds, taking home the title as the NHL’s most accurate shooter and a subtle $25,000 prize!

Moments after putting up the what-would-be winning showcase, a moment happened that brought tears of joy to Canucks fans everwhere…
Pretty cool, if I do say so myself. Boeser then spoke to NHL Network about his performance and the brief meet-and-greet with Crosby.

Sunday: game day. Brock Boeser, the only rookie at the All-Star Game and probably one of the most humble players in the league, walked down the red carpet sporting a non-traditional maroon suit. Simple, yet effective.
Boeser played 3-on-3 hockey alongside Johnny Gaudreau and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. After a slow first period for Team Pacific, they got going in the second. Boeser scored the game-winning goal with, you guessed it, a snipe.
The Province and Daily Hive’s Wyatt Arndt was quick to point out something hilarious:
Team Pacific faced the hometown Team Atlantic in the final and Brock scored once again!
He added an assist on Gaudreau’s 4-2 goal, giving him 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) in the two 3-on-3 games.
To cap off one heck of a weekend, Boeser was named MVP of the All-Star Game. Twitter was going crazy with #NHLMVPBoeser.
Overall, I’d say Boeser had a successful weekend. He got to rub shoulders and pick the brains of some of the league’s most elite players, leaving with a hefty $125,000 ($25,000 for accuracy shooting and $100,000 for the Team Pacific win) in prize money, earned the title as the league’s top shooter, and he’s bringing home the title of MVP of the NHL All-Star Game. He showcased himself extremely well and rightfully deserved to be among the NHL’s best.
