CanucksArmy Game Day: Reverse retros, better results, and Gaudette’s new do

OPENING FACE/OFF

After a less than favourable finish to Friday’s game, the Vancouver Canucks are back at it again as they take on the Winnipeg Jets to finish their weekend up. Derek Farquard (sp?) went after Nils Höglander and should have clearly been penalized last game so the Canucks won’t let him forget it happened tonight.

The Canucks’ social media accounts were giving away a Reverse Retro jersey for every Canucks goal scored last game so hopefully, the team makes up for it with, y’know, one goal maybe?

Vancouver desperately needs two points tonight if they want to keep pace with the playoff contenders in the North. They’ve beaten the Jets already once this season, let’s see it again!

LINEUPS

Might we see Zack MacEwen in the lineup tonight to rough up Derek Fairbanks? The Canucks could use a bit of grit to finish up the weekend set. As for any other lineup changes, we’ll have to wait to see what happens.

Braden Holtby is the likely starter as the Canucks wrap the two-game set with the Jets.

GAME NOTES, INTERESTING STATS, AND REVERSE-REVERSE RETROS

  • He had his wife cut his hair last night and hopefully, it’s made it to IG by now. What you probably don’t know about Adam Gaudette is that he’s seventh in the league in xGoals per 60 with 1.63 as per Moneypuck.com. Not exactly the guy that you’d expect to be there but numbers don’t lie.
  • Sticking with the X, Tyler Myers is a common theme in xGoals against per 60. Paired with Quinn Hughes, Myers shares a 3.75 xGoals against per 60 while he’s not that far behind when he’s with Nate Schmidt at 3.45. He’s ranked second and sixth-worst, respectively. MIght want to tighten up that defense, coach.
  • The Canucks carry their bad luck in gradient jerseys as they lost yet another game in the orca’s 3rd jersey likeness. As much as we all love these retros, alternates, and themed jerseys, the Canucks don’t have a very good record in them. That being said, #freetheskate.
  • Elias Pettersson is due. He needs a goal. Any goal will do. I suggest he binge-watches WandaVision and harnesses that fireball of a shot he has within him. Sure, it’s not REAL fire but it’s just as powerful.
  • J.T. Miller is one assist away from 200. He’s also one power-play point away from 90 and four shots away from 900. Tonight could be a special game for Jimothy Timothy.

Sadness transcends provincial borders:

MY 94 CENTS

We’ll see at least one goal by the Canucks this evening. We won’t see a 7-1 blowout either way but it sure would be nice to know it’s possible for the Canucks to channel their inner 2011 selves.

THE FINAL WORD

Vancouver played a pretty decent game on Friday but just couldn’t buy a goal. They’ll need some help on the PP but this feels like a game they should bounce back and get the W. They’re running out of time if they don’t.
