Blackfish: CanucksArmy Prospect Report – November 17, 2019

This week Vasili Podkolzin and Russia faced off against Jett Woo and Carson Focht in the CIBC Canada Russia Series, Tyler Madden and Northeastern had a big week, and Petrus Palmu continues to put up points in Liiga.

CHL

  • Jett Woo and Carson Focht played in the CIBC Canada Russia series this week. Neither registered a point in the 1 win, 1 loss performance by the WHL.
  • Ethan Keppen had 2 points in 3 games this week. 2 primary assists on Friday night which included forcing a turnover on the forecheck and getting a shot off at the top of the circle for a Ty Dellandrea rebound goal. HIs 0.7 points-per-game so far is a dropoff from his 0.87 in his draft year. He doesn’t have the skill-set that can drive a line but he’s getting good opportunities with regards to ice-time.
  • Arturs Silovs won his lone game this week in an 8-5 victory over Owen Sound stopping 30 of 35.

NCAA

  • Will Lockwood and Michigan continue to struggle, dropping another 2 games this weekend and Lockwood going pointless.
  • Tyler Madden had a 2 goal, 2 assist weekend against Providence. He has 14 points in his last 9 games.

  • Aidan McDonough managed 2 assists on Friday night: the primary on Tyler Madden’s goal and a secondary power-play assist.
  • Jack Rathbone had a single secondary power-play assist in 2 games this weekend for the Crimson.

Russia

  • Vasili Podkolzin finishes the CIBC Canada Russia Series with 0 goals and 1 assist in 6 games. His production is disappointing but I liked what I saw from him in the snippets that I watched. He wasn’t consistently at his best over the 6 games but when he was on his game, he used his mobility with the puck to push play up ice and create offensive zone time and chances for his team. From an eye-test point of view, he was a positive force for Russia and should have been rewarded with more than 1 point.

Sweden

  • Nils Hoglander was back in the SHL this week and went pointless in 2 games. Against HV71 on Thursday, Hoglander was a -3 in 13:21 TOI. On Saturday, his ice-time was raised and he went on to play 18:45 while registering 3 shots.

Czech

  • Plasek retuned to Extraliga play after a solid U20 4-Nation tournament. He had an uneventful 3 games this week with 0 points.

Finland

  • Petrus Palmu scored a goal in 2 games this week for JYP. His 1.42 points-per-game ranks him 2nd in the Liiga.

AHL

  • Bad news for Olli Juolevi and the Canucks as it was announced that he has been removed from the Comets’ active roster. There is currently no timeline for his return to play and it is apparently a lower-body ailment that is unrelated to his knee injury.
  • Mikey DiPietro stopped 21 of 23 in a 3-1 loss to the Syracuse Crunch Monday. His .928 save% is 3rd for AHL rookies.
  • Brogan Rafferty scored his second goal of the season on a stuff play.

  • Kole Lind now has 3 goals and 9 assists in 16 games. He had a 2 assist effort Friday night in a win against Syracuse. This goal below ended up being credited to Justin Bailey rather than Lind.

  • Francis Perron had this tasty dish to set up Carter Bancks.

  • Nice backdoor play from Zack MacEwen to set up Nikolay Goldobin on this power-play goal.
