Vote for Hughes for the Hobey Baker

The voting for the Hobey Baker award is open and a Canucks prospect needs your vote

2018 1st round selection Quinn Hughes is among the over 80 players that are in the first round of voting that will widdle down to 10 players and then finally three.

Hughes is well on his way of beating all of his offensive categories from last season. He is currently 7th in scoring among all NCAA defenceman, 2nd in assists, and 5th in points per game. He leads that same peer group in assists per game with 1.0 assists per game.

The left-handed defender jumps off the screen in each game with his dazzling skating and playmaking abilities. Here in January, he has picked up right where he left off after helped the USA win a silver medal in January. Hughes has failed to register a point in only three games this week and has 16 points in his last thirteen games, which includes a 10 game point streak between November 3rd and December 7th.

Canucks prospect Adam Gaudette was the winner of the prestigious Hobey Baker award last season and Canucks fans hope that they can make it two years in a row with Hughes.

  • Given that I’ve only watched Hughes in highlights and I haven’t watched any of the other players at all, I’m not sure it’s appropriate for me (or most other CA readers who are in the same boat) to vote on this. Such awards shouldn’t be given out based on the rabidness of an NHL fanbase.

    • You beat me to it. I was surprised at the article suggesting we vote for Hughes without providing reason behind considering him the best player in NCAA hockey this season. Most of us simply don’t follow the NCAA well enough to know whether he is or isn’t.

    • Although I agree with your principles, it’s naive to think that other fan bases aren’t doing this. It’s only to get him into the final 10. How do they go from 10 to 3, and then from 3 to 1? Presumably it’s not all on fan based voting. But you need a Facebook account to vote, so being an old Luddite, I’m out anyhow.
