Blackfish: Canucks Army Prospect Report – October 12, 2017

We are back on our regularly scheduled day for the much-loved Blackfish: Canucks Army Prospect Report.

Canucks prospects continue to make a name for themselves despite some slowdowns. The Utica Comets kicked off their 2017-18 season with a pair of losses to the Toronto Marlies.

In Europe, the Champions Hockey League group stage is over with a few Canucks prospects moving onto the next round. (I will do a more in-depth look at their play in the CHL in the coming days)

Let’s dive in and take a look at the Canucks prospects making waves around the world.

Just a note – xNHL has been added to the charts below to show what their production would look like at the NHL level.

CANADIAN HOCKEY LEAGUE

Western Hockey League

Name Pos Age League Team GP G A P P/GP xNHL +/- PIM SOG Sh% SOG/GP
Kole Lind RW 18 WHL Kelowna 6 7 7 14 2.33 48.8 8 10 20 35.0% 3.33
Jakob Stukel RW 20 WHL Calgary 8 4 2 6 0.75 15.7 4 2 9 44.4% 1.13
  • Kole Lind continues to put up points with three goals and one assist in two games this past week. He has points in every single game this year for Kelowna. His 35.0% shooting percentage is not sustainable, but the 3.33 shots per game is encouraging. His three goals can be found in the twitter thread below:

  • Despite the slow start, Jakub Stukel had himself a decent week with two goals and two assists since our last update on Friday. Like Lind, his shooting percentage is a little lofty.

Ontario Hockey League

Name Pos Age League Team GP G A P P/GP xNHL +/- PIM SOG Sh% SOG/GP
Jonah Gadjovich LW 19-000 OHL Owen Sound 7 5 4 9 1.29 27.7 4 11 24 20.8% 3.43
Cole Candella D 19-241 OHL Sudbury 7 1 4 5 0.71 16.6 -2 0 20 5.0% 2.86
Matt Brassard D 19-065 OHL Oshawa 6 0 2 2 0.33 7.7 5 8 16 0.0% 2.67
Brett McKenzie C 19-296 OHL North Bay 2 0 1 1 0.50 16.9  -1 2  5  0.0%  2.50
  • Jonah Gadjovich had his point streak snapped – as he was unable to pick up a point in Monday’s game. With that being said, he still ends the week with two goals and two assists in the three games this past week. He’s down to only 3.43 SOG/PG! (that’s still good). His goal from the 7th can be found here:

  • I made a passing comment last week, saying that Cole Candella has been doing the right things and the points will come. Luckily for me, Candella had himself a good game this week with 1G and 1A in Sudbury’s only contest. It’s nice when these things work out.
  • Two games and zero points for Matt Brassard.
  • Brett McKenzie picked up his first point of the season with one assist in one game for North Bay.

  • Michael DiPietro stopped 88 of the 93 shots he faced this week – that bumps his GAA to <2.00 for the year. The Windsor Spitfires will raise their Memorial Cup Championship Banner tonight.

  • Adam Gaudette kicked off the NCAA campaign with a bang – posting 1 goal and four assists in 2 games against Sacred Heart. Northeastern plays RIT this Saturday. Gaudettes’ goal from this past weekend is below:

  • 2016 3rd round pick William Lockwood had one assist in two games for Michigan.
