Some interesting notes from the list above:
- The entire 2017 draft class with be in attendance, including Jack Rathbone.
- Forward Nick Issacson and Matthew Kellenberger are the only draft-eligible invites, the remainder of the invites are free agents. If the Canucks do choose to pursue Issacson or Kellenberger, they can sign an ELC, but once released from camp, they are eligible for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
- Recent signees Jalen Chatfield, Zack MacEwen, Griffen Molino and Alexis D’Aoust (AHL deal) are all in attendance.
- Thatcher Demko, Jordan Subban, and Evan McEneny are not in attendance after attending multiple camps in previous years.
- NCAA bound Adam Gaudette and William Lockwood will be there. Due to NCAA regulations, they will have paid their own way there.
- The Canucks have shown a track record of inviting development camp invites to Young Stars in September. So we may see some of the same invites in Penticton at the end of the summer.
We will have some more in-depth analysis on the invitees in the coming days.
Who doesn’t love people who visit BC children’s ‘hopitals’ (sic)
Great sign that Gaudette and Lockwood are willing to pay their own way to come to camp. I think that’s a great sign for them signing instead of waiting out the four years and re-entering the draft. Also, did Juolevi and Brisbois grow a little? I thought they were 6’0 on draft day. I don’t know about you guys, but I think Palmu is going to steal the show in prospects camp.
To me, the most interesting three on defense are Juolevi, Brisebois, and Chatfield. I like the Canucks making this into an event.
There needs to be more of a buzz around our team. It was there at the beginning of last season and especially the year before, when Mcann and Jake Virtanen were joining the big team. The positive vibe, which young players bring should be played up as much as possible.
I’m already really looking forward to the Young Stars in September. Well it is almost July after all
Some curious invitees. Be interesting to see mid-season signings: Chatfield, MacEwen, Molino. Agree that Palmu is going to steal the show. Joey Ratelle is of note: very, very abrasive, hard-nosed player; fights above his weight-class with 100+ PIM – my bet to win an ELC. Can’t wait to see the new guys + returnees – especially Brisebois – think he has great upside. Can Lockwood participate after shoulder surgery, Ryan?
Where is the Grouse Grind run on the schedule?
Nice to see some past picks are still prospects. Candella, Stukel and McKenzie.
I rally can’t believe the Canucks let Skyler McKenzie slip by. He is another Marchand, and it’s not like they weren’t watching Portland.
I like the variety of skillset going into this camp. Hopefully a couple non drated guys work out and earn an ELC.
Molino is listed at a respectable 185 lbs. When he was signed a few months, he was listed at 171.
Has he been hitting the gym? Hitting the cheeseburgers? Both?
Why wasn’t Rodrigo Ābols invited ?
I know he’s just a 6’5″, 195 lb center that the ‘nucks drafted last year and only scored 50 points in 52 games in the QMJHL last season.
I mean, it’s not like the Canucks need a big, scoring center or anything (apparently). Seems odd that he’s the only one from last year’s draft that wasn’t invited to the development camp.
He signed with Örebro in SHL for next season.

2017 Draft – 8/8
2016 Draft – 5/6
2015 Draft – 3/7
I am really intrigued by Adam Brubacher. Big boy, right handed shot, no clue how he skates so I will be interested to see him at the Prospects game. Also from same school as Chris Tanev so not unlikely for him to get a shot. When you look at our squad our d depth looks something like this: (Just guessing pairings)
Hutton Tanev
Edler Stetcher
Holm/Juolevi Guddy (Holm may start in AHL as he is waiver exempt according to cap friendly)
Pedan Biega
Mceneny Subban
Briesbois Chatfield (dark horse to make Canucks, skates like the wind, makes sense to start in Utica)
Sautner Cederholm (not sure if he makes Utica)
If Juolevi makes it, everyone gets pushed down a spot. Would be exciting if we could sign Will Butcher but we would probably have to guarantee his spot on the big club.
This camp is considerably more talented than any camp the Canucks have held over the last 10-12 years at minimum. Might even be the most skilled ever. We will also likely be a front runner for a skilled speedy Centre in Kerfoot.
clearly don’t know how Brubacher shoots either, hes a lefty
