Canucks recall Borna Rendulic

The Vancouver Canucks have recalled Borna Rendulic from the Utica Comets ahead of tonight’s matchup against the Red Wings.

Rendulic, 24, has recorded 14 points in 52 AHL games this season. While those numbers are underwhelming, the Canucks don’t have a variety of call-up options at this point. After recalling Alexandre Grenier, Joseph LaBate, Jordan Subban, Evan McEeny and Richard Bachman, Rendulic is the best player to choose from Utica who has with an NHL contract

From 2014-2016, Rendulic was a part of the Colorado Avalanche organization, suiting up for 14 NHL games and notching two points in the process.

The situation with Virtanen is often misread. He is not “buried” on the farm team as some sort of punishment or banishment. He is there and will be kept there for so long as required to allow him as much time as needed to develop his game into one that translates at the NHL level.
Jake’s focus is to be kept on the farm to learn, not to be a yoyo player.

“Rendulic is the best player to choose from Utica who has with an NHL contract” agreed, and that’s really sad considering some of the former Benning draft picks that are playing there.

Would have been much better to trade Virtanen a year ago when I called it… He just does not have NHL brains. The trade could have netted value, but now the club is stuck with trying to teach him to be an NHL player. He is not. At least not nearly as a 6th over all. More like a Kassian. Or Schroeder. Etc…
