CANUCKS ARMY GDT# 18 – CANUCKS VS. COYOTES (HFC NIGHT)

HFCCoyotes

The Vancouver Canucks are playing tonight.

They’re playing the Arizona Coyotes who played last night in Calgary. That sounds like a recipe for a Canucks win. If you have already bought into this theory, this might be your first Canucks game this season. The Canucks seem to be predictably unpredictable lately — well, not just lately — and they’ll have to put in quite a different effort to hang with the Coyotes this evening.

If you have followed my shenanigans for the last year and a bit, I am dropping a serious truth bomb: No FedEx Kinkos Pah honix youtube video this time. I know, you love it. But, I’ve moved on, this team deserves better, and you deserve better.

Go Canucks Go.

Same lines from the Ranger game.

Ryan Miller was given the night off against the Rangers, so it’s his net tonight. The Coyotes played last night so hopefully, a repeat shellacking isn’t in store for another Canucks goalie.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson was injured in Calgary last night, and he might get the day after soreness so watch out for that. Dylan Strome was a healthy scratch last night as was Jakob Chychrun and Connor Murphy. We may see one or few start. Shane Doan has one goal this season, and he’ll score two most likely tonight.

Louis Domingue is believed to be the starting goaltender on record this evening for the Coyotes.

GAME NOTES, STATS AND OTHER INTERESTING INFO

  • It’s Hockey Fights Cancer night in Vancouver. The Canucks have a downloadable sign to say who you are fighting for amongst other neat things they are doing to raise awareness. They might be losing on the ice, but they’re winning where it counts. I love the idea of the name bars on the warmup jerseys being who each Canuck is fighting for. So great!
  • Jake Virtanen was re-assigned to Utica because his “stuff” was here. It doesn’t affect THIS particular game but knowing they screwed up is a start. Get Jake the games he needs so he can be a contributing factor on this team.
  • Don’t look now but Luca Sbisa is screaming up the scoring charts in Vancouver. With three assists, he is tied with Erik Gudbranson and Troy Stecher for 12th on the team in points. This should be alarming to you; not that they’re tied but that one defenseman doesn’t really get points, the other should surpass both of them by tonight and Luca Sbisa, well, how is it possible he even has that many points?
  • Willie Watch 2016 is heating up even though it shouldn’t be and with the losses mounting in consecutive games, it’s only a matter of time before he’s let go for not having a good enough team to put on the ice.
  • Alex Edler is in some kind of funk and tonight’s game would be a good one to bust out. It’s usually the sticks causing him grief, but his play has now factored in. He could use a big game.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

Oh man, now this?

MY TAKE

Even though wins aren’t going to be on the menu that often this season, we can still hope for them. I still enjoy the Canucks winning but if they’re going to lose, lose with some freaking dignity. Lose the game by a goal on a good shot, not by a touchdown in a good period.

Also, figure out the Jake Virtanen thing.

WHICH CANUCK WILL HAVE THE MOST “STUFF” TONIGHT?

Is Markus Granlund for real? Despite the awfulness that is the Canucks, minor bright spots are poking their way through, and he’s one of them. I pick Granlund to have the most “stuff” tonight.
