Canucks send Kenins, Grenier to Utica

The Vancouver Canucks are getting some bodies back, and as such, have to slash the roster back down a little bit. They’ve done so today, sending Ronalds Kenins and Alexandre Grenier back to the Utica Comets.

The move comes in reaction to some positive news on the injury front. Sven Baertschi participated in practice today after missing two games with an upper-body injury, and according to Willie Desjardins, should be able to play tomorrow. He was also optimistic about Brandon Prust, who banged up his knee on January 1st against Anaheim.

Kenins was called up on December 12th and played in four games. He averaged about 11 minutes per appearance and didn’t take any shots until yesterday against the Coyotes, where he hit the net four times. Grenier made no appearances during his call up.

Kenins, who has been doing the up-and-down throughout the year, which has limited his play time, has one assist in eight games with Utica. Grenier is second in team scoring with six goals and 13 assists in 33 games.

Too bad, I was looking forward to seeing Grenier play, was hoping Higgins was on his way down for “conditioning” stint. Need to see what Grenier has got as, I believe his contract is up at end of season.

I 100% agree, I’m truly hoping the Canucks are bringing big Jake back into the fold for a quick confidence boost and will watch to see how the trade deadline in the WHL plays out, ensure he ends up with his rights held by a contending team, and then arrange for his participation on that team for what they hope will be a nice playoff run. That roster spot needs to go to Grenier/Gaunce/Kennins on a rotating basis in equal measure so we can see what we have in those players at the NHL level in the bottom 6 ! Shinkaruk while the most promising of the Utica bunch probably doesn’t see the NHL until a consistent top 9 spot opens in the line up, hopefully after the NHL trade deadline with the departure of Vrbata and Higgins!
