The Utica
Comets weekly report on all the activities down on the Vancouver Canucks farm
team has returned.  The Comets have
played 2 games this week and have broken their 5 game losing streak to return
home with 2 points.  There was even some
positive regression in their possession numbers.

The
Statistics

The Comets
have improved slightly this week though the results aren’t all that clear.  Their possession has increased putting them
back to first in the league in possession statistics after dominating Toronto
on the shot clock.  Their PDO has dropped
dramatically recently due to their inability to score which has not helped
them.  The Comets have also played the
least amount of games in the leagues so the point gap between themselves and
the teams ahead are just as likely a by-product of the games played
differential.

The Utica
Comets broke their old record for shots in a game by putting over 50 shots
towards Toronto.  Even without score
effects the Comets massively outplayed the Marlies but their luck was not with
them tonight.  Tom Sestito also contributed to a game without using his fists.

The Comets
decided to play Joacim Eriksson in a back-to-back, a rare move for this team
but one that worked out as he posted a Quality Start.

comets schedule

It will be
a difficult week for the Comets to try and earn all 8 available points.  The Comets play a back-to-back-to-back series
while they are the away team for 2 of the 3 games.  The Comets will face Adirondack twice, a team
they have not lost to this year, which will be put to the test.

terrible group of prospects in the AHL. Either that or the coaches aren’t very good at developing them. Shinkaruk’s on pace for a 10 goal season in the AHL? Oi. Kenins gets the call up before Jensen? I can see why the canucks brass don’t want to trade those young guys.

    • Spiel

Wow. You might be just as stupid as Moron00. Another contender!

I hope the Canucks take their time developing prospects. I think Kassian is a glaring example of what happens when a player is pushed through and doesn’t learn how to be a pro and doesn’t develop good habits. Also, Kassian is a guy who clearly needed time to develop these traits. I think a guy like Horvat has the discipline and work ethic to move along much faster than most.

      • Vanoxy

        Good point.

These kids need to earn their playing time, and having guys like Jeffrey and O’Reily there to provide a measuring stick is great.

Sure, we all hoped to see Jensen, Shink etc light it up this year, but they will need to develop as pro’s first. Gifting these guys playing time just breeds complacency and entitlement. See exhibit a. Kassian, Zack.

I think Green is developing these guys the right way. By treating them like everybody else on the team, and challenging them to show that they are better than journeymen AHLers.

    • Vanoxy

Hey, Cancer00, do you ever have anything meaningful to contribute? Other than putting your toxic attitude and stupidity on display, I mean. I’m not sure why you bother coming here. I am curious. Why don’t you enlighten us?

      • Vanoxy

Hey, Ted, do you ever have anything meaningful to contribute? Other than putting your toxic attitude and stupidity on display, I mean. I’m not sure why you bother coming here. I am curious. Why don’t you enlighten us?

      • Vanoxy

        Ummm Ted,
Do you know that you sound like a very unpleasant person when you prefix every argument with a weak “joke” name followed by 00 to try, I don’t know, to be funny? While your cancer comment might be particularly hilarious, most of your name calling make you sound childish and not very bright. Yes, Mr 00 is a pompous ass. It’s obviously intentional. You falling for it every time makes you sound dumber than your occasionally astute comments. (Though trading Hamhuis is a dumb idea.) While Nucks fans often get a (pretty warranted) bad rap, this site usually talks hockey and doesn’t fall prey to the usual dull witted name calling that plagues the the rest of the internets.

  • Vanoxy

Wow so many trolls in here. I guess they are worried that the Canucks management is actually managing their prospects the right way!!!

It’s not where you draft them, it’s how you develop them!!! Alex Burrows, Chris Tanev, Ronalds Kenins are all undrafted free agents.
