Welcome to this week’s Comets Militia where we review all the action from the Utica Comets.  The year is continuing quite well for the Canucks AHL affiliate as they went 2-1 in the last week, and the success looks like it could continue for some time.  Should anything happen to the Canucks that causes lineup changes for the Comets they have capable ECHL depth ready to call on.

Read past the jump for all the latest analysis on the Utica Comets.

Canucks Army Postgame: Miller Time

It's no secret that Ryan Miller struggled in St. Louis after he was dealt there last year. It's also no secret than the Canucks goalies have struggled to stop pucks at 5-on-5 this season, entering the night with among the worst 5-on-5 save percentages in the entire NHL. So, while Ryan Miller is a professional and wants to win every night, he had plenty of added motivation to turn in a strong performance against his brief former team.

And Miller certainly fulfilled his end of the bargain, stopping 31 of 32 shots, and all 27 Blues shots at even strength, in a 4-1 Canucks win. Vancouver wasn't a 4-to-1 score better than the Blues tonight, but they weren't 6-to-3 worse than Dallas on Tuesday either. It all evens out in the long run though, and a win in October is the same as a win in April.

Read past the jump for a recap.

The St. Louis Blues and Vancouver Canucks have both gotten off to a similar start to the year. Neither team is piling up the wins out of the gate, but both teams have put up very impressive possession numbers - St. Louis is 3rd in 5v5 Corsi%, while Vancouver is 5th. The main difference is that while St. Louis has seen the second worst shooting percentage in the NHL, Vancouver has received the third worst goaltending.

Tonight's 5:00 PM showdown in St. Louis then is the extremely stoppable force against the highly movable object. Read past the jump for expected lineups and a more in-depth look at tonight's game.

I had planned to cover an important topic that’s being brought to light in recent times with this week’s column. Needless to say the events that unfolded yesterday in Ottawa put that on the back burner.

As we reflect on yesterday’s events and let the questions of “Why?” and “How?” run through our heads, keep in mind and take solace that we live in one of the greatest countries in the world where events like these are few and far between. Take solace in the men and women who are protecting this country and its citizens by risking their life running towards the gunfire. Take solace that our media focused on getting the facts straight, not sensationalizing the drama and producing news in an articulate manner.

Acts of terrorism are not an everyday occurrence for us Canadians. However, the way our country responded made it look like this is just another day and unflinchingly we remain together a powerful nation. We have set the bar and we will continue to keep the true north strong and free. More after the jump.
