Hockey Night in Canada is back! Sort of! The team plays on the road for the first time this preseason tonight, when they make the short trip to Edmonton. If you'll recall, their last outing - on Wednesday night against the very same Oilers - was a rather unfortunate one, in which they were blitzed early and often.

Read on past the jump for a look at the expected lineup, and some notes in advance of tonight's game.

Odds for Canucks Point Totals, Individual Awards, and Team Success

Checking out some of the betting lines, probably.

For most people, simply sitting down on the couch, watching the game, and cheering their team on isn't enough. There's an appeal towards having something - other than, you know, your blood, sweat, and tears - invested in what you're spending all those hours throughout the season watching.

To achieve this some play fantasy sports, while others gamble. I've never invested any sort of meaningful money in what's ultimately a guess of how a sporting event that you have no personal control over will turn out (unless you were associated with the 1919 Black Sox), but I'd be lying if I said that I'd never sprinkled some loose change in the search of the gratification that comes along with being able to say "A-ha, I knew it!". As long as you're in control, it's all good fun.

I was checking out our friends over at Oilers Nation this morning, and noticed that they had posted some odds and Over/Unders for individual Oilers. I figured I'd do the same for the Canucks, so read on past the jump for the goods.

Last night in New Jersey marked the first time you saw two players in a National Hockey League game circumvent the new rule where a player cannot remove his own helmet prior to a fight. Instead Brett Gallant and Krys Barch politely removed each other’s before throwing punches.

Mike Gillis Appears on The Bro Jake Show, Drops News on Booth's Return

It's looking like this Saturday could be the first time we see David Booth in game action since March 16th.

Disclaimer: I've someway, somehow, managed to avoid getting involved in any capacity with all of this Bro Jake business on Team1040. Local sports talk radio really isn't my cup of tea anyways, so refraining from listening to a single second of that particular program hasn't been all that difficult. Heading into today all I knew about the radio station's newest personality is that nearly every single person on my timeline couldn't stand him, and that he sports a goofy moustache (from his awkward commercial with Travis Lulay).

That all changed on early Thursday morning, when I was forced to tune in to listen to what Mike Gillis had to say during his appearance on the program. At least he rewarded me with a few interesting tidbits. Read on past the jump for a transcript of the discussion.

Comparing our Prospect Rankings to those of the "Experts"

Where do the four guys above come in on Pronman's Top 10 list? (Image via Jas Kang )

With no hockey for what seemed like ages we were relegated to using this platform to discuss the team's pool of prospects for a hefty chunk of the summer. And thank god for the series that spanned the entirety of August, because it did an admirable job of taking our minds off of the fact that the noteworthy Vancouver Canucks news was few and far between.

We've already been back and forth, and back and forth, and back and forth (and back and forth one more time, just for good measure) about our Top 20. As with any subjective list, people took issue with certain rankings (most notably Brendan Gaunce, of course). It created healthy discussion, though, serving its purpose.

Well the summer is pretty much over, and with the preseason underway, meaningful hockey is well within reach. But that doesn't necessarily mean we can just forget the topic of prospects, since it's looking like a few of them could play meaningful roles on the team in the coming months.

Corey Pronman (of ESPN Insider and Hockey Prospectus) released his Top 10 list for the team, which surely paints a much clearer picture of the prospect landscape considering he's as dialed in as it gets on the matter. Read on past the jump to see how his list (and the one Hockey's Future put together) compares to ours.
