Canucks at the World Juniors: A Look Back

With World Junior Championship pre-tournament action just one day away, the Vancouver Canucks are likely to have a handful of prospects representing their various countries. It's always interesting to look back at the success (or lack there of) of current players at previous World Junior Championships.  Though the WJCs host the world's best Under-20 year old players, countries don’t necessarily send the best players, but rather the best–available players.  Late bloomers may never even be considered for their world junior roster while many players may peak as a U20 player and never see a higher level.

With that being said, let's have a look back at current Canucks who have played in a World Junior Championship.

Canucks Army Postgame - Star Struck

Tonight seemed as good an opportunity as any for Vancouver to recapture some of the offensive flare that was so pivotal in driving their success from earlier this season. They had finally been given a large enough cushion from their grueling season-long road trip to ditch the exhaustion excuse. A repeat affair of Saturday night wouldn't be accepted.

Further to that point, even in the golden era of Lindy Ruff's brief tenure as the Stars bench boss they've more or less thrown defensive hockey to the wayside. This year it's doubly so, with Dallas icing a lineup that consistently includes at least two rookie defenceman. They've also been victimized by even-strength goaltending nearly as bad as Vancouver's.

Alas, it wasn't to be. For every Vancouver push, there was a response from Kari Lehtonen. It didn't take much for the Stars to win this one, as they got the one fluky goal past Eddie Lack and sealed the deal with an empty-netter, securing the 2-0 victory.

Canucks Army GDT #31 - Canucks vs. Stars

December 17 2014 03:26PM

After a few days off to rest and reflect on the embarrassing 5-1 loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday night, the Canucks are finally back in action to take on the Dallas Stars in the second game of their four game pre-Christmas home stand. After being atop the NHL standings less than two weeks ago, their short 4-game losing skid has dropped the Canucks to within just two points of the final playoff spot in the West. They have also dropped 5 games in a row against the struggling Dallas Stars, so the Canucks are surely keen to snap a couple of bad streaks and put some more daylight between themselves and the Flames and Wild.
