That's the latest news on the Ryane Clowe derby per Bob McKenzie (a report that was quickly corroborated by Renaud Lavoie of RDS).

So the Canucks are in the running still, but the Rangers look to have pulled ahead in the bidding, which makes a lot of sense considering how the Canucks and Sharks play in the same conference and will be divisional rivals beginning next season.

Let's get into this further after the jump.

Figured I'd post a screenshot for those of you who use Twitter in your browser and haven't been able to see the cryptic symbols Roberto Luongo is tweeting out on this, the busiest Canucks news day in months.

Gilman: "We're Looking to Make Another Move, at least one, and potentially two"

Laurence Gilman says the Canucks haven't finished renovating their roster ahead of the deadline.
Could a Ryane Clowe trade be next?

Following a busy morning in which the Canucks extended Chris Higgins and traded for Derek Roy and re-assigned Jordan Schroeder, Canucks Assistant General Manager Laurence Gilman appeared on the Team 1040's Canucks lunch with Matt Sekeres and Blake Price. Gilman addressed a number of issues, but mostly talked about the multitude of moves the team has already made and might still make over the next twenty-three hours (or so).

Asked whether or not the Canucks are "satisfied" or "done" with their roster tinkering, Laurence Gilman dropped this tantalizing nugget:

"We're not done trying to improve this hockey team... We're looking to make another move, at least one, and potentially two.

We know that this is our team and it's our time and it's fertile and we're trying to win the Stanley Cup. So we're working at every angle here to see what we can do to add another piece."

Canucks Extend Chris Higgins for Four Years

With a day still left before the trade deadline, the Canucks have also extended depth forward Chris Higgins. Per the team:

On the one hand, the cap-hit (reportedly it's a four year deal worth 10 million dollars) is excellent for a player of Higgins' not inconsiderable abilities, and we might fairly describe him as having taken a "hometown discount" on this deal. On the other hand, he'll be a 34 year old depth forward in the last year of the deal, so it's not without some risk over the medium-term.

With Mike Gillis and the Canucks making a splash ahead of tomorrow's trade deadline and acquiring Derek Roy from Dallas, it appears that rookie centreman Jordan Schroeder is lost in the shuffle and will be reassigned to the Chicago Wolves.

Per the Canucks themselves:
