Ex-Canuck Peter Schaefer invited to Camp

According to Ben Kuzma, Peter Schaefer has been invited to take part in the Canucks training camp. The former Canuck/Senator/Bruin was bought out by Boston a year ago after spending a season in the AHL with Boston's affiliate club, the Providence Bruins. He managed just 7 goals and 26 points in 47 games played that year.

Young Stars Go Today

The Canucks have players entering their system at a VERY early age.

A showcase of some of the league's emerging talent starts today in Penticton, as the Canucks young stars face their counterparts from the Oilers, Flames, Sharks and Ducks. The tournament kicks off today as the Canucks and Oilers face off at 4 PM PT.

Less than a day after sounding upbeat and chipper about his immediate future with his club, Vancouver Canucks' top prospect Cody Hodgson was sent back down the rungs of the ladder. His injured back, which he said Thursday felt 100%, requires further medical testing and he will miss the Canucks' Prospect camp this weekend.

So what's next for Hodgson? And what's next for the Canucks?

We continue our series where Canucks Army will profile various players of interest leading up to the new season.

This summer marks the end of one BC native patrolling the Vancouver blueline (WIllie Mitchell) and the start of another with Smithers-native Dan Hamhuis. Not since the Mats Sundin signing (*spits, kicks at dirt*) has Mike Gillis gunned for one of the stud free agents in free agency and succeeded (without having to wait until December!). What can we expect from Hamhuis who is now the highest paid blueliner in Vancouver history and will be donning the Orca until potentially 2016?

In his September 5th article for The Province, Tony Gallagher takes up Willie Mitchell’s recent comment:

"We have a big gap in our union where you have the star player and the blue-collar player. All those top-end guys are getting paid more and more and the bottom-end guys are getting less and less. Maybe if we come to something more level, it might help the rest of our union."
