All fatsos, little pukes, pansies, and overpaid stiffs must go!
The Vancouver Canucks have about 24 hours to cut down their roster to the 23 man squad for opening day. In case you haven't seen already, the Canucks had a lot (I mean, A LOT!) of players trying out for the club.
So let's look at who has been liquidated so far... Ok that's a bit gruesome. Let's see who didn't make the cut and why.

Anyone who spent even a few seconds glancing at the Canucks’ defensive depth chart knew that the depth defencemen on the team were going to have some trouble making the roster. And anyone who spent a few seconds glancing at the team’s cap situation knew that players making more money than they were worth would have a black mark against them. At that junction of depth defenceman avenue and earns more than he’s worth street sits Shane O’Brien, who was waiver earlier today, along with Darcy Hordichuk.

We continue our series where Canucks Army will profile various players of interest leading up to the new season.
Andrew Alberts may stick out for a few reasons to Canucks fans, but here's one worth noting: he's the only NHL trade deadline acquisition Mike Gillis has made as GM (sorry, Yan Stastny doesn't even remotely count). He was brought in not just for Willie Mitchell insurance, but as the largest Canuck at 6'5'', obviously his hitting, ability to clear the crease and a relatively friendly cap hit ($800,000 last season) too. Unfortunately, blame the speed in the West or blame simple growing pains, but Alberts didn't endear himself to many last spring. So what happens with the Canucks and Alberts now?

October. It's the time of year when the evenings finally cool, the leaves turn and fall, and we can finally focus on real hockey. Or, if you live where I do, it's the first time in several months where it isn't going to rain every second damned day and I can sneak a few last rounds on the golf course before the Manitoba winter takes hold.
Ah, but that's not important now, and there is plenty to discuss in this week's round-up. The Flames finally shed a few bodies, the neighbours have one that they'd really like to have disappear, and injuries are not just an issue in Cowtown.

Canucks fans know that Kevin Bieksa has two sides: the good and the bad.
Do you get the feeling that Kevin Bieksa should be sending Sami Salo thank-you cards?
"Thanks for getting hurt again, Sami. You just saved me a ton of cash on moving expenses and a whole lotta headaches on moving my family. I owe you a new floorball stick."
Based on the rumours and conjecture that was floating around in July and August, the writing was on the wall for Bieksa's time in Vancouver. But with Salo out long-term, it's likely Bieksa won't be going anywhere. And that sound you just heard was a collective groan from Canucks fans.
