The Vancouver Canucks are playing in a Conference Final series for only the third time in their history. The San Jose Sharks are playing in a Conference Final series for only the third time in their history. The only difference is that the Canucks took 40 years to do, while the Sharks took only half that time. Both the Sharks and Canucks have been much maligned for their lack of playoff success recently despite strong lineups. One of these teams will move on to fight for hockey's Holy Grail, and the other will mire in another season of failure and months of questions to answer.
So which team takes the big leap to hockey's final battle?

What the hell are you cheering about? The Canucks stink in the playoffs!
... ... ... Or DO they?! (*Hint - yes, they do.)

The Vancouver Canucks are a few days away from starting only their third Conference Final series in their 40 year history. While this is getting a lot of chuckles from around the league, keep in mind that the Canucks are not alone in their limited amount of playoff successes. Yet for some reason, the Canucks and their fans seem to be a lightning rod for playoff criticism.
Canucks fans, don't worry. We are not alone. We are definitely not alone.

The Vancouver Canucks are into the final four of the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in 17 years. Since 1994, the Canucks have never made it past the second round. In fact, in those 17 years, the Canucks only made it to the Conference Semi-finals 5 times. So it is a tremendous accomplishment for the Canucks.
But as was pointed out on TEAM 1040 last night, the Vancouver Canucks are now only half way to their goal.

Game Review: Western Conference Semfinal Game 6 - Canucks @ Predators
The Vancouver Canucks are moving on the to Western Conference Final for the first time in 17 years. And for only the third time in their history, the Canucks win a 7 game series in 6 games.
And this game was a perfect microcosm for the series overall.

Yodellay-ee-whoooooo! Cauncks, I'd like to yodel in celebration tonight. Just like Ehrhoff.
Make that happen. I wanna see handshakes tonight.

Game Day Recon: Western Conference Semifinal Game 3 - Canucks @ Predators
Let's be clear... the Nashville Predators didn't win Game 5. The Canucks lost that game by handing it to the Predators with a comedy of errors and careless defensive play. While the notion of again crossing the continent to play one game, losing sleep and rest and healing time, and throwing off schedules, is largely unpalatable, the good news for the Canucks is that Detroit and San Jose are doing the same thing.
So will the Canucks take advantage of this new opportunity and finally kill off the Predators?
